Kevlar as fashion?!
This thread is more of open ended poll if U will. ABout how most goths/Rivitheads/cybers/...etc..etc. feel about the fabic kevlar, and or Nomax{Both are from the lovely Dupot Corp} as in fashion & clothing.I've engineered kevlar vest, tires, and gloves for a few firms, And as far back as 1996 ,I've wore something of that yellow cloth.Sorry, if that sound a bit fetish-y.Cause in the past years I've meet a few goth(Tactical goths) that have share the same style.A with an upswing of Celebrites whoring them in shows, runways and redcarpets events.Does that make it another idea mainstream fashion lefted from punk, goth, fetish culture?Like Pvc,big boots, and so-many other things.
Below is a College E-zine from Fla about Poly-paraphenthalmid-terephthalamide.

Newest Florida fashion rage: kevlar
by Werner Gomez
Nothing helps a person relax quite like going to the beach and basking in the sun, but if you're thinking of going to Florida you might want to forget the relaxation part and pack a bullet-proof vest .
This somewhat funny cause I'm going to Fla in Jan, for gothcruise3.I really get some weird looks with a body armour in my carry-on.

Kevlar is a great fabric, especially in quantities enough to prevent bullets from entering your body (A.K.A. Body Armor). I wear alot of kevlar/combat gear, and it makes me happy. I wouldn't really care if everyone was sporting the latest US Army Combat Boot, because mine fit perfectly, they are comfortable, and I like them. I also wouldn't care if someone walked out with a full body of BDU's and SWAT gear, simply because they think it looks cool. I like my gear, I like my clothes, and I will wear them no matter who else wants to wear it. Plus, you can't really blame them, because what other clothes go good with this?

When you say you wear kevlar, does that mean you wear the entire vest or just strips of the fabric itself? If you just wore kevlar fabric, then exposure to the sun or water would make the fabrics anti-ballistic properties useless.

Every day I'll wear kevlar gloves at work, and at nite/clubs poi classes( fire dancing) uses kevlar for the wicks, it burns at 2000* and melts at 1960+or -.When I wear my vests( I've have 5 full, and 3 half ones+trauma plates,etc..)the sun does not really harm the fabric, sweat does, cuase of the salt minaels and human bac## gross i know.
now the armour pic above ,, that a point blank corp model circa 90, cause of the larger arm opening .They bought out SafaiLand Inc.
And for the record Kevlar is in so many every day items, sneakers, tires, ovens, and boots ,I'd love to see New Rocks do something in that vein.
But, is this a long goth fashion trend ?Like bands Imperative Reactor, and the Das bunker crowd, some like to wear tact vest and so-on, for shock value (scaring all the lil girls in the neighborhood)or for a feeling empowerment/defense of a harsh world?

I like walking around in Kevlar, with a trenchcoat usually covering it, just to make the police officers in my school really nervous. It's funny. The reason I wear kevlar, is because it is really easily avaliable, just go to military surplus, it's a durable fabric, it's pretty weighty, so if you do get punched, it is going to take some of the blow, and the best quality of all: It has cool little words sown into the back.

The ultra-violet light will not change it so you can see it with your naked eye, but if the fabric itself is exposed without cover, you may find yourself in a sticky situation when the fabric failed to deflect the bullet you just took. Then again, wearing strips of the fabric byitself wouldn't protect you too much either. Even if the bullet didnt go through the fabric, it would still damage your internal organs badly or break some bones.. But if its all for fashion well then I guess its just fine. Iam not a very good dresser or so I've been told. I dont know if my picture tells you anything.

I bet I'd get in trouble for someting like that at school... my guy friends can get away with stuff like that at school 'cause it looks intimidating on them, but I'm a short fifteen year old girl. *shrug* it looks cool to me.

I'm a pretty skinny person to, so when I wear Kevlar, it doesn't look as intimidating as it looks ridiculous and "wanna-be-though-bad-ass-who-can-kick-your-ass!-but-clearly-I'm-not"-ish
So I just stay clear of it and go for my fishnet-shirts

They called it a 'Second Chance' vest. I don't know if that's in the ballpark of what you're talking about.
I don't know, though I wouldn't consider myself bi I thought a lot of the short girls that were wearing it looked damn cute in a bulletproof kind of way.
Wouldn't want to wear it recreationally though, no.

Wore the Kevlar on a security detail once.
When i worked at Ont/LAX airport in 91-95. it was unarmed security at open area of the AOA/UPS .now Ups was famous for their hiring background checks. So in those years I was stabbed 3times, maced lots , and tazed , slapped,15 foot pursuits, 17 firearms finds and 2 EOD events, Oh and 3 ks of coke thrown at me, it sucks having the DEa look at and say" Should we get like a vaclum or something?"
so I started wearing it at work, and it felt confortable to me.the Corp/Airport payed for it.then I'd get off at 2-3 am and go grab some food an forget about.I then wore it to a club in SD in 96 and folks loved it.
and I relized that other goths/Tactgoths wear it out too.Like a time a Retail Slut in Hollywood. I and my wife were shoping and in comes these couple and the guys wearing a vest on melrose Blvd. So told the peep nice vest, we become close friends.
but as fashion/ fetish or military couture I just forsee the us of the fabic.

It's been almost two months since this thread has been posted in. Why resurrect it to say something so pointless?
