Not all of us.
In all seriousness, though, I'm not entirely sure of what will happen to each of us, but I think ALL of us will be terribly surprised..

Wait are you talking about the end of the world being in fire, or hell? I'm talking about the end of the world being in fire.

Oooh! My bad! x_x;;
Well, yeah...there are some Christians who think that, and some who don't. There's about as many different kinds of thoughts on the end of the world in Christianity as there are drops of water in the ocean.
Heh heh. Now THAT would be a long conversation indeed! XD

Well, my observation points to the indication that you're putting sex as a priority or something you WANT and the fact that death makes you think of getting laid shows me that this chaste practice is something you're not happy with. Should you not celebrate your beliefs? Should your beliefs not make you happier than ever or make you feel more liberated? All I'm saying is that you should be jubilant about being a virgin and practicing chastity, but it resonates to me that it's more a hindrance to who you are.
You're going to feel guilty about getting laid before marriage because you've been convinced that this is something virtuous. Have you ever considered the idea that the chaste virgin woman was more of a product of male chauvinism in an effort to control women and protect males from their own insecurities?
I'm not trying to bash your religion. I'm simply noticing that an acquaintance of mine doesn't seem 100% gratified about their religion and hence, denies them the joys of life. Just a suggestion from me, you don't even have to consider it, but there may come a time that you're going to have to think VERY critically of your beliefs and maybe on that day, you may find that dogmatism is not conducive to your own happiness.

Couldn't it also be taken the other way as well? As a meathod to attempt to control all those cheating husbands? The whole sex before marrige thing doesn't apply to just women but to men as well.

Not in reality. Throughout history it was normal and non-chastising for a man to have sex with other women, despite the seemingly sternness of the Church in these aspects. Saying that the principle is not sexist because it doesn't explicitly subject women to men in its usage of words is like saying America was really invading Nicaragua (and Vietnam, and Chile, and Grenada, and Cuba...) for freedom and democracy.

Basically, yeah. I'm not advocating a tossing of faith to the wind. But I am going to say that if you're going to play the game in accordance to the rules of your faith, then you need to understand where these rules and ideas came from. I think you'll find that eventually, a lot of those dogmatic beliefs may not apply to you in the least.
The root of it is, someone says not to do something and then you don't question exactly why.
I do however, think a lot of Christians make things harder than they're supposed to be by not understanding where their derivative faith came from and why the Hebrew faith SHOULD be understood as well.

I say do it.
Turn that fucker on. Start colliding atoms and shit. I dare them. Considering the size of black holes, I'm sure a very small one can be quite devastating at least to a building.
What I'd like to know about black holes being generated in a machine is exactly how do they expect the machine to keep a black hole contained?

Hmmm, depending on the size of the black hole in question, You would need one hell of a strong container. As in, strong enough to resist what even light can't. My thoughts on containment can be boiled down to one word. Impossible?

Nope not impossible, as we need to do is make a perfect sphere, and how hard could that be?

When is anything in reality ever truly perfect though?

While the statement you quoted was sarcastic there is some merit in it now that I think about it. In continuation of the first quote of my signature, everything in the universe must be perfect, or the universe would not exist. It doesn't matter if if you believe in some divine force or natural force. If you look at it from the biblical perspective, "[god]saw that it was good". If you look at it from a scientist's perspective to put it simple 1+1 must always equal 2 therefore it's perfect. Existence is perfection.

OK, then someone make a physically mathematically perfect sphere.

There's no mathematically perfect sphere. There's four spheres in a satellite, I think, which are the most perfect spheres ever designed, but even yet they're not perfectly round.

Kontan:
I appreciate your respect regarding my beliefs, and appreciate your questions.
Actually, I had something of a spiritual crisis a couple of years ago when life crumbled out from under me. I ended up re-evaluating ALL my beliefs, and critiquing what I had been taught -very- seriously, and for a long time, was resentful towards modern Christianity for telling me one thing while actually believing the exact opposite. Truth is, I'm just now reaching the tail-end of this re-evaluation, and have had to redefine a lot of my beliefs.
Basically, I came to the conclusion that God loves us -despite- our fuck-ups, and not because of how 'good' we behave. I have to wonder, too, if things like pre-marital sex and homosexuality are actually 'sins', because I'm not at all sure that it's all that cut-and-dried. [Paul was terribly conservative in his viewpoints, and not even all the Christians of the early church agreed with him.]
Anyways, all that to say...I'm a -very- unconventional Christian. I'm convinced of the reality of God and Christ [which is an entirely different convo for another time], but I'm -not- convinced that every word of the Bible should be taken literally. [I view the creation story as more of a metaphor for whatever actually happened than literal truth.] I think that it was intended to be the story of Mankind's relationship with God, rather than a science book.
*ahem*
Sorry for rambling. ^^;;; Anyways, I agree with you that a person -should- be critical of their own beliefs, and shouldn't be scared to learn about and perhaps even consider others.

I think this is bull (the story, not the convo above :P). There are sooooooo many times that people think the world will end (example: in 2000). Let's just all accept that this is beyond our personal predictions. We will all have to die one day when our time comes.

Black rose, you are aware that most of the references to Armageddon within this thread were meant to be tongue-in-cheek and completely jovial, right?

They don't. It isn't certain that black holes will be created but if they are, they won't touch the machine. Their lifetime would be so short that they would disappear before coming into contact with it.
Cosmic radiation and particles already collide naturally at higher energies than the LHC at the top of the atmosphere.

Apologies to everyone, but I just realized what I wrote above didn't really address Kontan's point. ^^;;; Feel free to skip, but I feel it warrents a more accurate response.

You're right in that one's beliefs should be more about celebration and less about feeling trapped. As it is, I am looking forward to spending that time with my future husband. Also, it's a matter of personal pride at this point; I've held out until this long, and would be disappointed in myself if I gave in at the last moment.
Also, I have a lot of personal issues regarding my personal space, and I'm fully aware that it's most likely because of these things rather than my beliefs that I'm still a virgin.

Actually, yes I have. But then again, it wasn't women that Jesus chastised in the Bible for not being sexually pure, but rather it was the men. "If you look on a woman with lust in your heart, you have already committed adultery with her," He said. There are several more instances where men as well as women were chastised for not remaining sexually pure, but for the sake of time and space, I won't post them here. Let me know if you want them, though, and I'll be glad to send them to you.

That's unfortunate. A religion, as you said, should bring a person more joy than unhappiness. "I come to give life, and to give it more abundantly," Christ said. I don't think He ever intended for us to look at following Him as a drudgery. Unfortunately, though, humans are -really- good at taking something wonderful and good and turning it into something that isn't.
For your last point, I believe I already addressed it perhaps a little too fully above. XD

Kontan, nothing bad is going to happen.
Like Raptor said, scientists can already create black holes, and they're so tiny and short lived they don't do anything.
The image most people have of black holes in their brains is COMPLETELY incorrect.
