I am not straight edge.
I drink, sometimes- never to the point of getting drunk or even impairing my judgement, I am very careful.
I do not currently take drugs, though at some point I will.
I do not smoke, I do not take caffeine.
I enjoy sex, and given the somewhat flexible nature of my current relationship, this may at times involve casual sex.
I make no judgement on others for their enjoyment of any of the above, provided it is not causing them serious damage ('serious' here includes chemical addiction, organ failure, vomiting, impairing their judgement to the point that they become abusive, etc). They can do what they like, but if they're going to fuck their bodies over and make their friends suffer their spiral down, then they need help and shouldn't use whatever they're indulging in. Casual, non-addictive use of anything is fine by me, though. If someone wants to drink three pots of coffee for a marathon gaming session, or take some speed to keep them up till the club closes, they are most welcome to.

i tihnk straight edge is an awesome way to go through life. its healthy, positive and people who live this way honestly probably get much more out of life than those who dont live this way. thats just my opinion, keep in mind i am not straight edge, but would like to be.

Well yeah, I generally don't blast it out on a tannoy, I was teetotal and didn't do drugs before I even heard of it and would continue to have done so. I also don't believe in sex before marriage because of my religion; just if you say you're straight edge, it's A) quicker B) more people understand and C) I don't have to put up with insults over my religion.

There's a difference between not doing drugs or drinking alcohol, and being straight edge. I have no problem with people who don't do drugs or drink, that's their choice, and I can have a great time with them. Straight edgers on the other hand, are elitists, and consistently act as if others' decisions to drink/do drugs make them lesser individuals. I despise both elitists and straight edgers on principle.

:shrugs: Fine but sXe is easier to type than teetotal, drug free, caffeine free (which yes, is a drug, but nobody ever includes it), non believer in pre-marital sex. Capice?

It's quicker to type Nazi than Liberal but I don't want to pigeonhole myself into a group that's contrary to my way of life. If you call yourself straight-edge, people assume you're an asshole. Tee-total can include pre-marital celibacy anyway.

No, I'm for medicine when it is used correctly, it's drugs which are taken unnecessarily and do more harm to the body when taken than not taken I'm against.

Why can't they just sleep more, or take a cold shower, or eat some fruit; coffee isn't the only thing to make you feel refreshed.

Okay, fine by me, I don't say it to make me feel superior or self righteous, I just say it so people can understand why I'm not taking them up on their offer of a pint etc. And it's quicker, but seemingly after this little conversation - it's not quicker.

What bothers me about this entire thread is the fact that we have lots of tags.. You are this or you are that...

I don't really understand the need to type or say it at all.
You straightedge kids seem to be so hellbent on letting the entire planet know you're straightedge.
Instead of talking about it and writing those stupid Xs on your hands, why not just respectfully decline a joint or a fuck when offered to you?

I gotta guzzle energy drinks to make it through my night. Night shifts ain't natural to me and I'm having a hard time adjusting. Caffeine has its evils but eh, I'd rather not fall asleep at work.
