oh come on he's either joking or confused
let him google some more variations of 'goth' and learn more
honestly kid if you identify with a real gothic subculture, it wouldn't even occur to you to make this post. more important than what to wear is what to do, and this certainly isn't it.

zexos, you look like more of an expert on goths
than anything that can be read on some website.
Still it's true that it's less what you wear and more
what you do .

But then one comes up to this question: Can clothes help you act the part? If someone seeks to be in norm with something, such as goths, wouldn't it be logical for them to not only act the part, but look the part, to get the full experience and reaction from society?

I think that brings up another point, it's not about a reaction from 'normal' society, it is a society (subculture, if you will) that could care less what other people think. A counter culture is pretty much what would care because they are either trying to change something or another. *shrug*

hi, what's ^. n2mh. i think you should dress the way that makes you feel comforble. i do. i don't care what anybody says about me. i am gothic and loving it, and if people don't like what they see, then they can just turn there head. idon't care. so dress in what you like, not what everybody else likes.

The fat man asks a valid question. Allow me to answer. "Acting the part" is never good. Last time I checked, this made someone a "poser." Being part of the subculture is about being who you are. Why in any gods name would you want to act differently to get a reaction from society? Society fucking sucks. If you want to get the full experience, be yourself. And a reaction from society? Fuck that. Anyone who sees you coming up the street should be looking at you and what you have made of yourself, not a facade that you have caked on your face and body for their amusement.

Alright, so by dressing the part, you are, in essence, all "posers". Now, I am talking about thier reaction towards you, to see if this is really what you are. I mean, if you were to walk down the street, acting as though you were a rapper, just to try it out, to see if it was you, would you not like it for people to treat you as though you were a rapper, to get the feel for what it is?

How do I say this nicely? You make it sound as if being yourself and being who you think you are is like changing clothes. I am still asking you why you would want to 'try out' something to see if it's you? Why not just be comfortable and BE YOU?

I agree with Icarus. How will you know what is you if you've never tried it before?

No, that's someone else telling you who you are. It's about a PERSONAL esthetic. It has nothing to do with how other people react. Besides some poeple are just stupid heads with zero charisma.

I believe, the clothes you choose to wear is only a superficial persona of a person. By judging a person by what they wearing, you are simply being judgemental and your judgements isnt neccessarily correct.

according to your line of logic, one only achieves worth or validation according to what OTHERS ascribe to one.

your interpretation negates the individual.

i hope it's ok to ask something on here and not get bitched out because if it.

i'm a goth (maybe), and i wear tight jeans. dark blue, blue, light blue and i was wondering, does that make me not a goth? i mean i do have black jeans, but i mostly wear the blues. so am i considered a goth.

i mean i wear what i feel comfritable (i can't spell worth a damn but i don't care.) in. is that such a crime?

Your poor grammar and spelling is more likely to get bitched about rather than your fashion sense....

There was a programme on the BBc recently called "A Week Of Dressing Dangerously" or something like that, where they took different individuals and made them dress in a completely different 'outfit' each day for a week and gauged how they behaved and how their friends and total strangers reacted to them. Stuff like, cowboy one day, pimp the next - that kind of thing.

And guess what - d'oh! - the clothes made a huge difference. To actions and reactions.

"This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man."

Luckily for me I'm pale, dark haired and tall and lanky, so add some bondage trousers (Not sure if that's what they're really called, someone said it, I just walked into a shop and bought them) and an interesting shirt with things on and voila!

Not really a big part of local Goth scene though. Don't hate me, but I don't love cradle of filth and every other death metal band that can scream. Go Sisters of Mercy and Pink Floyd!

A stupid question.

No one knows you better than yourself. You're either a goth or a non goth. You should be able to answer it yourself, unless YOU don't even know yourself.

The clothes you wear is not the only thing that contributes to being a goth.
