Do you realize that makes no sense at all?
It's just plain out stupid!
You're bitching that politicians base their beliefs for the future of their country out of their religions, just like everyone else that has a religion also sees the world through that lens.
And then you bitch about how Wiccans and Buddhists wouldn't have a chance.
Let me tell you something:
If a Wiccan or a Buddhist became an elected official they would also perform their job in accords to the ideals of their religions
Jesus Christ. That's just obvious; I can't believe you can't follow one single line of thought.

I was, sorry Jonathan.
It's not her grammar so much as she just seems like she could use some new ideas.

Ah, fair enough. I have a slight tendency to believe I'm the center of the universe at times. My fault.
I think it would be amusing to see a Dawkins-caliber atheist run for president. Instead of a non-threatening 'religious enough' person to be palatable to the masses, a furiously out and out unrepentant non-believer.

I had a Christian poli-sci professor who said "God isn't on anybody's side." Jesus did seem to make it pretty clear when he said "my kingdom is not of this earth" that he didn't give a shit about human politics.
I wish more religious people thought like this and God was never mentioned in American political discourse.

Wait, Jillian...why forty?
If you mean the age limit to be president of the US, it's thirty five, not forty.

But if I counted right, I would only be able to participate in a presidential election when I'm 39 because on the one before that, I would only turn 35 after the campaign starts.

I applaud your ambition Godslayer.
Have you ever run for any office..school president when you were in high school, ASI President or an equivalent? City Council?
Just curious if you have acted on what seems to be a pasion of yours.

Vicepresident everywhere.
In student council wen I was a junior; before being taken out because I'm a 'secular humanist' and it was a Christian school.
In my current organization for two years.
And ran for VP for my college Student Government, but our party lost to the other (notice that - bipartisanship has become so common to everyone that they voted for whoever was in the party rather than each individual)
Hopefully, and quite probably, I will be elected this next semester, what with everyone knowing the mohawk and seeing SFR around.
But JCC does bring up a point. Becoming a president is still seeling out for an anarchist.

JCC may be right, but his opinion should not weigh on your passion, and it must be, or you wouldn't continue to run (i.e. waste resources in the form of your time, energy and money, etc.).
My law school is the same way, typically, one group (party) dominates.
Good luck on the election for the Spring semester!

Would it be selling out if you ran as an anarchist and worked to help make America an anarchist state?

Not if he ran now, but America might be very different in twenty years time.

Anyone else see the obvious problem with electing a leader to usher in an anarchist state? Just me, huh?

It's viable as an idea, but it works on the idea that this person wouldn't get power-hungry, which puts far too much faith in said person. Although, a leader needs willing subjects, so the second he stepped out of line, if he has no lackeys he has no power.

That contingency would require a population whose loyalty is to predominantly anarchy and not to the state/their own livelihoods. At which point, you might as well cut out the middle man and have everyone work together to implement an anarchist system right away.
This was a fundamental difference between anarchist thinkers like Bakunin and communists like Lenin-- the latter insisted on the transitory phase known as the Dictatorship of the Proletariat, and we've seen how that worked out...

Thats true, I keep thinking of things in terms of Canadian politics rather than American. The Canadian parliament currently has four sitting parties with a few independents, and the Green Party has a good chance of getting a few seats in our upcoming election, which would bring it to five. There are a lot of different parties besides the big five, like the Communist party and the marijuana party among dozens of others. I think they know they'd never get many seats, if any at all, but having a seat or two would give them a voice in parliament, and being a party in the running makes people more open to their ideals.
There was a group of people once who called themselves the Anarchist Party of Canada, but all they did was slam pie in the face of politicians.

It is inherently impossible for a president to run as an anarchist.
A president is a head of state. Anarchists are acephalic.
