It isn't about teens not being able to handle seeing displays of affection, it is about their hormones making it difficult for them to control their own actions. Also many teens have a very egocentric view of the world making them less likely to notice the distraction that their in class affection is having on the learning environment and therefor without specific rules about affection teens are more likely to hug/kiss/cuddle in class because it doesn't seem to them like it would be a disruption

Is the bibliographical information for a text book good enough, or do you need something that I can link directly? (I'm assuming that lecture notes aren't good enough so I wont bother asking about those)

I want some sort of relevant information, textbook, official study, that directly links hormones in teenagers to not knowing it's wrong to whip your dick out in class and start receiving handjobs or make out on the desk. Until then, your claims are falsified by default.

There is an article titled Denaturalizing Adolescence that was published in volume 28 of Youth & Society (1996) that gives a pretty awesome look into the subject, I can't link you to the full article as I can only see it through my school's subscription of Y&S but maybe a library near you has one that you can look at, its about 20 pages long and uses an adolescent population (13-17 year olds) of 200, both male and female, to draw its conclusions. It is possibly the most helpful, concise article on the subject that I have happened across. If you want something available on line then give me a little time to try and find something (I'm pretty much useless at finding stuff when I can't use EBSCO).

I think that what she's going at is "generally speaking, teenagers tend to be more impulsive than adults" not "all teenagers are sex-crazed idiots with no self-control."
Anyways, to the topic at hand, I think hugs and hand-holding are rather innocuous
and enforcing an outright ban on them is unreasonable. However, I tend to agree with Ophelia in that many people seem to think their entitled to express themselves in whatever manner they please, regardless of what it does to the classroom environment, which is wrong.
Though I would've hated wearing one, I think school uniforms are a good idea.

JCC, it isn't just my own personal experience with teenagers, although that does suggest they can't handle themselves in a classroom.
If teenagers could handle themselves, why is teen pregnancy the epidemic it is?
Why are STD levels so high?
Most relevantly, why do most schools have a policy like the one you guys are bitching about?
If the majority of teenagers knew when it was appropriate to show physical affection and when it wasn't, there wouldn't be a need for this type of rule.

Woah, you're going to blame teenagers for America's shitty system? The general trend in Europe since 1970 has been steady decrease in teen pregnancy, and the reason is widely believed to be good sex education. Don't back up your already debatable claims by saying that something obviously exclusive to America and its shitty policies is a problem in teenagers in general, it's not true. Besides, America's teen pregnancy rates are lower than they were in the 50s.

You might as well say Africans are all irresponsible as well if STDs are the determining factor.

The reason why we should keep the rule is that the rule is there? Seriously?

Are you saying teenagers don't know that sex leads to babies?
I agree that sex ed is shitty in most schools, but unless most teenagers are borderline retarded, that's not an excuse.
Also I never said it had anything to do with America, except that it happens to be a problem in America.

No, the reason the rule should be kept is that it's NEEDED.
Have you seen all the morons in this thread saying JUST KISS EACH OTHER ANYWAY NYAH NYAH.
That's why the rule is there.

In public schools (in America, at least), you're getting a free education.
If the people giving it to you don't want you kissing and hugging each other in the building, don't fucking do it.
You don't NEED to broadcast your puppy love to all your buddies.
That's the big issue--you people actually give a shit.
If you were mature, you'd realize that you don't need to be hugging and kissing each other in school, and you'd do it at a time when no one gave a shit.
Instead, you're all bitching about being called irresponsible while at the same time deciding you can go ahead and do whatever you want, proving you guys are the classic idiot teenagers that these rules are in place for.

That's the best you can come up with? "It's free, stop complaining?"
You're saying that schools can do whatever the fuck they want, and because this education you're forced to take is free, you have to like it?

You're right, you don't need to. You also don't NEED to acknowledge your sexuality if it's other than heterosexuality without persecution. There's a lot of things you don't NEED, but apparently you're preaching that we should never WANT, and I don't agree with that, different things are of more importance to different people. I'm not for or against this rule, strongly, although I would probably say against if I had to, but your arguments fall flat.

Unless you disagree with the rules, in which case it's understandable that you break them.

It's not just about sex ed. It's about the availability of condoms, knowing how to put them on, available help. Other countries have done it, why can't America?

You used it as a reason for why you think teens are irresponsible. Since it's an American problem, it doesn't reflect on teenagers at all, it reflects upon America.

That's not a reason! That's trying to validate your claim by saying your claim again. So far you've got that and stereotypes, things aren't looking good for your case.

That's your problem, you see a TINY percentage of people and apply it to the entire group. Gnet is not an indicator of every teenager's behaviour or even the average teenager's behaviour, pull the other one.

The main point is that it's not needed at school, and it doesn't matter if you want it if they're saying no, and it's not a big deal.
And no, I don't think school is a place to express your sexuality, either.

So you're applying it to an entire group with a couple of exceptions.

I'm not sure, however I'm more of a follower in 'benefit of the doubt' than the 'let's just assume that they can't handle it and therefore place incursions on them with no verifiable reason' method.

So it's invalid that most people on here agree that teenagers can't handle it, but it's not invalid for you to just give them the benefit of the doubt when you yourself have no reason to?

Are you seriously telling me that 'innocent before proven guilty' is a faulty method because though there's no evidence that they're guilty, there's no evidence that they're innocent either? I give them the benefit of the doubt because I've never met every single teenager, and therefore don't have the base arrogance to assume that I can simply pigeonhole them as I see fit with characteristics that are unproven.

It's not guilty before proven innocent.
Kids make out in school. That's inappropriate, so people ban touching, because if you allow it, you guys take the attitude YOU ALREADY HAVE, and say I'LL DO WHATEVER I WANT.
I don't have to meet every damn kid to know it's common.

Prove it!
Unfounded slippery slope arguments, stereotypes and using your claim to validate your claim, things are getting worse here.

I'm on a White Nationalist forum because I was curious about their beliefs: they justify their stereotypes with pretty much what you said, but it's usually 'Walk through a black area'.
Your statements don't mean shit Ophie, and if you were in my position and someone was saying what you're saying, you would tear them a new asshole without hesitation.

Assuming that 90% of all teenagers can't ' handle ' other persons displaying signs of affection is just plain idiocy. What exactly are you basing your claims on? Just by SEEING a couple of teens making out in school, you automatically think that we all do it?
Your statements are not based on fact, seeing as you haven't even SEEN 1/10000 teenagers making out, nor have you even begun to consider the factors, which drive ' most of those teens ' do commit such acts. Cont..

Have you ever thought that those idiots might just be doing it for attention? I - unlike you - am still in secondary school, and I find that most people don't show extreme PDA, as you have suggested. In fact, they disagree with fucking in public during class. This is why I tend to disagree with most of your statements. You judge everything based on one single factor of the thing you judged (Lol).
Goodbye for now.
