My mother was giving my friends and I a lift home from the cinema on Thursday night, and there were seven of us in the car. We were just about to leave the first girl home when a police car behind us turned on its sirens and followed us.
The policeman said my mother 'cut a red light.' It was night time, there was no other cars on the road, that certain set of lights is always green, and none of the other people in the car saw her cut it. It's her first offence too, and she was driving well within the speed limit.
After being a complete prick to her, the police man slapped her with a £60 fine and 3 fucking penalty points. All for 'cutting a red light', with seven witnesses against 1...

I'm severely annoyed at one of my best friends. I'm trying to keep my calm so I don't go off on her, but it's difficult.
Also, my Dad's sick. He has to carry around a bag of oxygen wherever he goes. Right now, he can't even come to town to play the music he loves; he has to stay home and only goes to the doctor. I'm terrified of getting The Call, saying he's in the hospital and I have to come immediately.
I swear, cigarettes [and possibly all forms of hard liquor] should be completely outlawed [save possibly for cloves]. Or, at least regulated a LOT better than they are. >_<

dabbadmc: It sounds like she should be able to contest it with that many witnesses.

I'm pissed off that my daughters GCSE options have to be made, and of those, 1 of her core subjects is R.E. and they arent allowed to opt out of it, they have to take it as a GCSE. I'm fucking livid. None of the core subjects is an option of 1 of the languages.
History and Geography are now optional though.
My problem is, the units being covered in RE, are - believing in GOD (not gods, and many religions have several), marriage and family, life and death, drugs, alcohol and tobacco, disabilities.
I support them teaching these things, but I think its bloody unfair they are making these kids sit a fucking exam for it. Theres no mention of covering other key religions, or belief systems. Shes also having to do the HHC whish is also covering the same fucking subjects as RE but minus 'god'.
Rant over.

Sorry, GCSE's are the exams the kids here take. They are apparently completely different to when I sat mine. They'll study each subject (all the core/compulsory, and the optionals) and sit exams for them. If they pass, they are awarded the GCSE for each passed subject, as a grade A-G, I think. Could be wrong. The grades gained in them determine getting to study for higher education.

Ah, gotcha. Sounds similar to the SAT's and ACT's here in the states, only there's no way that folks would stand for anything religious being put in either one.

I don't see that Drugs, Alchohol, Tobacco and disabilities in particular should have anything to do with religious education AT ALL. If they're using the old " religion can help people with such problems " gag, then sorry but NO, religion is not needed at all to overcome such difficulties regardless of wether people have found it helpful or not in some cases.

I just spoke to my mum (she has worked with schools etc for a long time), and she said that RE is the only subject that is a legal requirement to be taught in schools, and dates back fucking decades. Dont get me wrong, I'm not opposed to RE if it infact involves religion. All the crap they are teaching them however, or plan to, is being covered in no less than 2 other subjects. I think History and Geography are far more important subjects to be honest. Although, we told the school that RE as a subject is compulsory, according to the government, sitting a GCSE for it isnt. So thats not so bad but still a waste of 2 hours a week.

I think (it's been awhile) that when I did RE, we had those kind of topics. But we studied more than one religion and the general views that each of them had on those topics. Then during exam you could answer a question and use any of the religions, like what their after life beliefs are or whatever. Of course Christian stuff is generally more familiar for most students here, so we concentrated more on that. Kinda stupid if the objective was to learn about other religions.

Wait until A-Level if they do that, General Studies appears.
EDIT: also GCSE's are pretty crap. I did geography back then. They taught me how to colour in pictures wooo.

I never had to do RE once I'd picked my choices, but even then we could only opt out of 1 science, 1 language and opt in for English lit. Then we didnt have to do art but did have to do a DT subject. I left with 13 GCSE's. If my daughter gets to do the BTECH, she loses 2 GCSE options, and will have English, Maths, Science, French and art textiles. The English she's doing the double, and science the triple though. She's a bright girl, I just wish she had the option to take more subjects now, like she wants.
Geography also taught me about mud huts, the weather and how to colour maps!! Without the internet, I'd get lost lol.

Ha doesn't sound like geography has changed. I think I got eleven GCSEs. Or ten and a half I suppose, short course RE. And I did mine... four years ago I think.
Anyway RE won't matter if the other stuff goes well. Same with General Studies, universities don't usually count it for anything at all.

I'm on the brink of the mother of migraines.
I'm sick of fucking retards texting me telling me to ring them.
I'm done with 2 faced people. The sort who slag my bf off to high heaven (the sort who are in their 3rd relationship in 18 months, been in love with and marrying each man too) and then are smarmy nice to his face when they want a lift somewhere.

I really hate when people I hardly know give me nicknames, if I have introduced myself as Rebecca don't just pick a nicename for Rebecca and call me that, I do not want to be called Reba or Becks (seriously why would anyone want to be called Becks?). If you ask then I'll tell you Becky and Becca are both fine but some people just seem to want to call me by nicknames that I don't like.

Solumina: I feel your pain. Whenever I tell people my name, they always want to call me by the whole thing, or by "Beth".
*shivers*
No offense to the Beths out there, but no. Just no. And if you insist on using my full name, you damn well better preface it with "Queen".
