Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL.

Pixies frickin rocked!

I was just listening to Doolittle and I can't believe how great this band was. There's not a bad song on this album. Or any of their albums really. They had this really loose song writing style and performance that I can't really match with any other bands. Such great chemistry between the band members. Really great bass lines too. Kim Deal is THE bass chick of rock. So many other bands found inspiration from them too. Like Nirvana and Primus to name a couple. They pretty much invented alternative rock before the nineties were even close. Definitely one of the finest rock bands ever. Right up there with The Who and The Rolling Stones.

Any other fans?

Yup, fantastic band, seen them a few times. Check out Sonic Youth if you haven't already.

Yeah I have. The Breeders also. Pixies really started it all though.

I <3 The Pixies, though I haven't listened to much of their stuff. Also, if you like Primus, you should check out The Residents.

I know all about The Residents. Thankyou though. Ever heard of The Devin Townsend Band? Judging by your taste I think you'd be crazy about them. If not you have to check out the album Synchestra.

My favourite so far is this, as intentionally cheesy as it is.

Oh hell ya! I was going to suggest that too but I thought it wouldn't be a good first impression. It sounds more like Strapping Young Lad. That song is on Synchestra. The album itself hits just about every musical style there is, including polka. The song before Vampira is an intro called Vampolka. It's the melody from the verse and chorus from Vampira played on accordian with a polka beat.

I'm already downloading his full discography. Ironically, I have every Strapping Young Lad album, and it took me til now to recognize the guy...

Strapping Young Lad is badass. His solo band is so much more creative though.

If you like SYL check out Zimmer's Hole. Album "When you were shouting at the devil..." It's actually just SYL with a different vocalist. Devin makes a guest appearance and produces them.
