I'm going to agree with Mr. Filth.

Cruxshadows and Switchblade Symphony was at one time Darkwave. Now it's something else.

As for the other bands. Fuck them. Except for KMFDM, they were pretty harsh and was actually Industrial Rock last time I checked.

But these bands AREN'T goth, yet they have a fandom based mainly by those who love Bauhaus and Siousxie. It still doesn't make them goth. But they're cool with them.

Also, Jillian grew the fuck up since then and even now I'm more than certain he would disagree with his old quote there.

Also.... FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE!

They're part of the style. I'll now hand the floor to Godslayer Jillian.
They're just dark, dude. So was Johnny Cash. So is Nick Cave. That doesn't make them goth or gothic. I agree that they may appeal to the goth crowd. They could just as easily appeal to any other crowd for that matter. They aren't goth though.

I would actually say Birthday Party was goth. If not, it was some kind of cracked out post-punk madness.

Birthday Party is pretty goth. At least post-punk. But nothing he does now is goth.

Same with Peter Murphy's solo stuff. You wouldn't call that goth would you?

Not exactly. Well, not at all, really. Cuts You Up sounds nothing like Bauhaus.

Exactly. That's the case I was making for Albert. Therefore Nick Cave isn't goth.

Bauhaus=Goth

Peter Murphy=/=Goth

Birthday Party=Goth

Nick Cave=/=Goth

Also someone mentioned that Andrew Eldritch claims not to be goth. Well that's because 'goth' was coined AFTER his band was already established. Same with Peter Murphy, who claims Bauhaus isn't goth. That's probably why he thinks MCR are a goth band. The term was established after the bands who started goth were already established. They can't see the forest for the trees.

I think Voltaire is a good example of a sort of folklore music, in that he took a style of music and made it reflect a piece of culture (the goth scene). Its not goth music, no, but his lyrics do reflect the aesthetic and stereotypes associated with it. Well, a lot of it does anyway.

I once tried to convince my folklore teacher to let me write a paper on his music rather than a paper on this Newfie rap group called Gazebo Unit. God I hate them.

Ew. That sounds horrible.

Still this thread has everything. Kontan inadvertently trolls Voltaire, Hijinks ensue, Underwear throws her...er underwear at him.

Yeah this thread is totally awesome. I am pleased.

I'm sure it's in the works :P Meanwhile I'm setting him up for some horrific Lavaboarding, because as I recall he's still in Martian Jail, and I plan to hold him without trial.

Man I love going mad with power. It's so much better than going mad without power.

I say that the shit people say doesn't bother me, but sometimes it does. I'm not as strong as the image I project, to be honest. But a lot of shit still doesn't bother me. But some does. Nobody is infallible to insults.

I hope that gave you an insight into my mind.

BUT FUCK YOU ASSHOLES! I am famous!

I am controlling your brains.

I heard my name!
And I actually agree with my quote. That's what it is. Only it could be argued that instead of "it's a style" one ought to say "it's just a style"

Meh. I find people who say stuff like "That looks kinda gothic" and "So are you goth or something" tend to not know what the heck they are talking about. So I don't know if it's just a fashion. Wearing all black = Goth is not my belief.

Thanks Ophelia, I really appreciate that!

Mr. Filth, you've clearly never listened to my music beyond one or two of my "funny" songs, maybe Brains or When You're Evil. I do a lot more than that but whatever, you probably wouldn't like the serious stuff either by the sounds of things.. it's no big deal either way. Like I say, "nothing is for everyone". (well except maybe air)
Though I do believe I have written at least a song or two that would cause you to disrobe, light some candles, slip into a warm tub and let Calgon take you AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! (or maybe not). ; )

Kontan, I have no ill will towards you. You have an opinion and you were just throwing it out there and since I also happen to be a denizen of the web, I happened to be in earshot to throw it back. It's communication and communication is always a good thing. I'm really glad that my music plays some part in your life and that you cared enough about it to be moved (for better or worse) by my choices. All the best to you. I look forward to sharing a stage with you again sometime.

Everyone else.... I don't make Goth music...
I'm a Goth who makes music.

Cheers!
