Dexter
Opinions?
Personally its one of my favorite shows. I haven't read the books, not sure if I'd want to. A friend of mine from school is a huge fan of the books and was telling me about it one day at break, as the author (can't remember his name at the moment) was in town signing a new release at the local Borders. but he didn't know there was a showtime series based on the novels until I told him. Kind of strange how that worked out. Anyway, if you've read the books, what are your opinions?

come on, I can't be the only Dexter fan here. I thought the concept of the show would appeal to at least a few people here. looking forward to the 3rd season

I caught it a couple times at a friend's house, it's good enough to make me wish I had Showtime.

They changed the books quite a lot. The TV show is a bit far fetched in comparison.
The books made more sense. The TV show portrays him more as a vigilante than a serial killer.
The reality is, if he is able to 'control' his urge to kill and only use it on 'bad' people, then he is not a serial killer, he is just a vigilante.

Vigilante and Serial Killer are not mutually exclusive concepts.

I absolutely LOVE Dexter!
I had no idea it was a series of books first though. That's interesting indeed.

I love Dexter, it's my favorite TV show other than Battlestar Galactica.

I do love dexter. My brother started reading the books (right after he finished Hit Parade!) and then I read them, awwww, dearly devoted Dexter! then I started watching the tV show. If you don't have showtime but, want to see it go to www.surfthechannel.com and watch it online. Or, buy the DVD, or rent it.

It's one of the best shows out there. The books are good, not great. I haven't read the 3rd book as apparently the author started bringing supernatural elements into the storyline. That sounds retarded. Anyways, the third season was great. Miguel Prado was an excellent character, and the skinner was good enough.

I got one for a friend. He has watched the shows + said the book was really good as well. Once he has finished he will lend it to me.
If I like the book I'll watch the show.

The books are good, but the show is far superior in every respect. There's just so much more detail and depth to the characters that are omitted from the book in contrast to the series. Strange, as it's usually the other way around. So the books are a fun/light read, but the series is the real way to enjoy Dexter.

I have noticed that the cops, or whatever they are, on CSI: Las Vegas (the only reasonably good CSI) seem to have gotten a lot more obnoxious this season. But yes, you are right, the base level of ethics in Dexter's department is pretty bad.

Amen!
About Dexter, it's really one of the best tv shows I've seen.
I read the first 3 books, they're MORE sick than the series! But in the third book it gets into myths which I didn't like.
But I definitely recommend reading the books.

I honestly thought for sure that last season would be the last. It was one of the better seasons but felt kinda forgettable after Trinity.
