Anyone in L.A?
I sent in a video audition for America's Got Talent. Now they want my to do a live audition. Unfortunately, it is L.A. I can afford a hotel room for the night, but I'll be traveling alone and it sounds scary, L.A.
Here is my video audtition, if anyone is all that concerned about that part of the story:

Yes. I believe I can win it.
Did I mention added incentive of being able to sit in the audience, so even if I blow it, which I won't, you can see it live.

Ya know, normally I wouldn't mock if I thought you had an iota of talent...but from what I've seen...nah.
Stop it, you aren't going to be famous.

Hey there! I live in L.A. Granted, I don't know everything about the city as I've only been here two years, but I can try to give some basic pointers. I don't know where you're staying but I'm gonna guess it's within the areas of local public transit-I'd go to socaltransport dot org if you need help getting around. It's been quite helpful for me and my friends in getting around. Since you're alone, I'd also advise you to not go out too late as much as possible, and if you choose to, a cab is your best option. L.A. really isn't as bad as many people lead you to believe-I moves here alone at 16 and the only time I ever felt in danger was through my very own stupid fault...If you have any specific questions, I can try to help. As for you're audition-good luck

Thank you. Much better than expected. Thought I was going to be bitching at people and pointing out that no one has watched the video.

What is the name of LA's transit system? Thought I'd have to take a cab everywhere. Could save some money.

Anyone knows if Catch is a supremacist? I would find it comforting to know I could hate her in all possible levels.

Okay, America's Got Talent has two categories for which they take the video auditionees on to the show.
Category 1: You're good.
Category 2: You're bad and it's funny.
They're looking to humiliate you in front of the entire country and a few other ones.

Please save yourself a lot of embarrassment and wasted time. You aren't going to win, all you'll accomplish is public humiliation of yourself.

I live in the western part of LA, Westwood specifically. If you are out that way and need anything, perhaps free lunch, talk to me.

Well, you have two options. The first is to own a car, and drive that around (remember not to use your blinkers... otherwise you look like a sucker and everyone will drive all over you). The second is to commit a moving violation, have your license revoked, and ride a bicycle in a futile attempt to cross the vast distances at which things are spaced in SoCal, ignoring to the best of your ability the jeers of the locals. Or if you put on spandex and an aerodynamic helmet, you can pass yourself off as a serious bicyclist.
Oh, wait.. you meant public trans. Sorry, you're screwed. Although, I think I did see a train once in Los Angeles. No, seriously! I once even heard this crazy story about a bus driving around. Right through the middle of L.A.!
In seriousness, though, it's not a public trans town. Anticipate difficulty. Although, it's been almost a decade since I was last there, and maybe things have improved.
Anyway, I tread upon people's dreams only with great reluctance, but I agree with the trend of thought in this thread. Those shows are the moral equivalent of sn|_|ff porn. The entire point is to draw in random innocents and murder their dreams in front of a live audience, and on national television. It's the 21st century version of the colloseum. Do yourself and the rest of us a favor and stay the fuck away from it.

Actually LA's public transit systems is rated as one of the best in the US, though it is also considered to be one of the most under used so maybe people just aren't all that aware of it.

Honestly catch, I want to slap your mother. She clearly has no respect for you, allowing you to put yourself up for public humiliation like this. It is apparent that you have no idea when people are taking the piss out of you. The instant I read this I had flashes of the awful auditions that were broadcast, for the 'pop idol' show in the uk. It's that 'I am going to win' attitude. If you actually had any talent, you would be happy just taking part and being in with a chance of a win. Walk slowly and dont trip over your ego when you're up on stage.

I don't think that you really want to hang out with Catch.

Oh be quiet. I've ridden the Metro around LA and it's actually quite decent.

As someone above has mentioned, the metro system isn't all that bad. The only thing that can be a bit confusing is there are differemt "metros" : metro rapid, metro express, merto light rail, and a smaller circuit bus called DASH. If you go to the website I posted earlier and enter all of the necessary information, there will be a number of options to get you where you need to go. Many require you to change buses/rails at least once but that is NOT hard as long as you pay close attention as to whether you're supposed to be on the SW/NW/EW/SW corner of the street to pick up your next bus. I can tell you from experience that knowing the correst bus is important as my friend and I once ended up near Compton because we were simply on the wrong side of the street! I'm sure you'll be fine though, really. I dunno how much I can help you out otherwise, as I'm currently in good ol' South Central ghetto town and lack a car and even money for school books! Again good luck, and even if you don't make it, take some time to enjoy the city!
