Does anyone meet that one person or people who bashes you about being GOTH?
Especially if you just beginning to display it. I hope I'm not a goth poser, but I feel that I am goth. As much as I want to, I can't explain why. And I'm really doubting myself as much as I'm telling myself not to.

Quit caring so much about the word and do whatever feels right to you.
Fuck the rest.

The time I actually feel happy is when I don't think about "what is being goth?" I mean, it is a lifestyle choice right? And of course it doesn't matter if you don't fulfill the sterotype.

Lifestyle choice? To me it's just a music genre.

Choice for some not most I wouldn't think.
Stereotypes should fit a person not the other way around.

The best thing to do is to be yourself, and do what you feel is right for you !!!.
`Demand much of yourself and expect little of others, thus you will be spared much vexation` (old chinese proverb)

Dress however you feel like dressing, listen to whatever the fuck you want to as far as music goes, talk to the people you enjoy talking to, etc... etc... Live your life as comfortably as you can in clothes that are comfortable to you, and all that other stuff. Who cares if it's called something like "goth" if you have to listen to specific music or like specific music in addition to what you like.
Don't care about the word so much and just live your life.
In highschool one of my coats ripped, I couldn't wear it anymore and it was early january. I didn't have any coats so my dad lent me his military trenchcoat from when he was in the army. First day I walked into school, 85% of people I could've considered friends or even acquaintances, saw me and I never heard a word from them again. They simply didn't want to be associated with me later, I would've switched back to the type of coat I wore before, but I liked how the long coat kept my legs warmer than my older coat so I stuck with it. I found out later kids thought I might try to shoot up the school, but any of my actual friends who found that out laughed at that prospect. (I knew all sorts of kids, from football players, drama kids who partly were okay with being "seen" with me, chess/math geeks whom of which still enjoyed my company, preppy kids which got dropped down to only 1 actually still liking to hang out... and 1 of my 2 bestfriends wouldn't even look at me anymore)
In my opinion people who do that to you, just because you ripped your coat and had nothing else to where, aren't people worth caring about. I spent my junior year of highschool being incredibly depressed due to a lack of friends and insomnia.

Sometimes my non-Goth friends pick at me about it, but I just pick right back at them. (-:

Don't base yourself on what others think of you. They don't know every single thing about you, only you know that.

There are some people who feel inclined to one-up everyone. It is a waste of time to even think about what they say.

I personally do not recall ever having someone scorn or scoff at me because they thought I was goth. One or two of my friends inquired out of curiosity if I was a goth at some point. I responded that I did not paritucularly care to describe myself as such, but if they felt that way then it did not unduly bother me either. I cannot think of an instance in which I knew about individuals refusing to associate with me on account of my goth-related preferences. This is not to say, of course, that such people did not exist.
In any case, reiterating what many others have stated in this thread, if you feel that you are comfortable in your own skin, then by all means ignore any would-be detractors. Their opinion means precious little, if anything at all.

I don't mean to be disrespectful in the slightest, but why do so many fat people end up as gawfs?

Instant attractive points.
To romanticize yourself as something deep and dark is better than accepting that you are indeed, an overweight and zit faced dweeb.

There's so many people who bash other's for different things.
It's something we all have to get use to.

Being Goth and dressing different can give some negative responses.
People tend to yell at me, stare at me, call me stuff and such.
Don't let it get to you. And, if you live in one of those countries where Mall Goths are common, don't let them get to you either. Laugh at the first one to claim you aren't "goth enough" for not knowing any H.I.M. music and the like.
Meet these wankers with an attitude that says "I don't care what you think, I am what I want to be."
That will get you far.

No; people are usually cordial to me. I have received very little abuse from members of the general public.

Probably because you look absolutely amazing. Myself, in my teenage years, I looked like a complete and total tool, and a few people were honest enough to say so. Now I look less "gothy" I guess but what I wear suits me much better, and I get nothing but compliments.
Sadly I do get somewhat ridiculed for my taste in music, except for The Cure and Clan Of Xymox.

Whuh? He didn't think goth?
Sometimes that's complimentary. I guess it's 'cause all i wear are skirts and cardigans. Hard to look the part when you're a frilly redhead, even if the clothes are black.

Goth is a lifestyle choice, just like anorexia.
