Yeh, would have ignored it o'er the weekend. It's actually scary how I have a life sometimes. (Hm, maybe not. Does obssesive RPG count as 'a life?') ;-)
So, you have a cute girl/guy to hang out with this weekend?

Mr. Maelstrom, of course I'm right. I'm _always_ right!

Well I dont disagree with smoking it , not something I would do myself but I certainly dont look down upon peope doing it.

What I do disagree with is teenagers smoking masses of amount of it and getting off there head in a cloud of druggy smoke specially when they have the problems of school exams etc it really dosnt help them getting addicted to something like that , Just theres a differnce with smoking a bit in the afternoon to compleatly wasting yourself when your just 15- 18 and such.

I've always looked down on smoking / alchol my dad pretty much died from a heart attack , he'd smoke like 20 Cigarettes a day for most of his life so it was bound to happen but that dosnt have anything to do with marijuana I've always thought of normal cigarettes to be worst anyway.

Well i think you have seen people doing weed, some you might have done it too. One thing i can say NOT SOBER. Anyway, marijhuana was used by US agencies around '50s - '60s as a way of retrieving infomartion, later they created better drugs. It was all part of the "we dont youth around politics" operation.
My point is that weed being legal is ideal for manipulation, and if you're manipulated, well, its sad and bad.heh

I'm not sure marijhuana (legal or not) makes a political difference.....
All democrasys are still being assfucked by their government and big companys.

On the topic though, I live in a country where weed is illegal but I have been to a few places where it is legal...even lived in one. No matter if it's legal or not people still smoke it but don't talk about it.
Of course weed does make one paranoid....heh

I think the same rules should apply to both marijhuana and tobacco....sure, you can smoke, just respect peoples right not to be smoked around.

And all firearms should be erased from existence, if you can't fight close-up and honestly... don't fight at all.
A knive is all the protection you need...and all weopons turn against their owner eventually.

(I'm sorry for my spelling)

(Note: I am using Australian grammar)

The criminalisation of marijuana can assist in preventing people from using marijuana in public where they can be seen and arrested. However, legalising marijuana in any country will not stop everyone from accessing and using the substance. People will most likely be more cautious of their actions with marijuana. The law can only legalise the substance on reasonable grounds and it would be hard to prevent marjuana from being under control. I mean it is impossible for the police to punish most/every marijuana users as it is tends to be inclusively hidden from the public eyes. The police can't spend all their time house-searching or street searching for suspicious marijuana users!

Why do you think tobacco ciggarettes aren't banned completely? Is there a country that has/had legalised tobacco smoking completely?

Marijuana is a gateway drug for the weak minded and those that are easily addicted. I have seen too many people go that way. They always start with mary jane and end-up on meth, crack, X or morphine. That is my only problem with weed.

As far as medical marijuana is concered, I have to agree with Foamy.

I smoke on occasion, only when I don't have anything to do due to the fact that it makes me lazy. Also, I don't sleep much and helps me catch some zzzzzzzzz's. I don't like to smoke it more than once a week or so.

I don't mind Americans owning guns as long as they are not assault rifles or rocket launchers. God help the guy that attacks this country.

I don't agree in abortion because I believe in personal resonsibility.

That about covers everything.... But in reality alcohol will never be illegal, marijuana will never be legal, the only place you will be able to smoke cigarettes is in your house(as long as it's 14 miles from anybody who doesn't smoke), the politicians will try and fail to take America's guns, abortion will become permently illegal, and all this debate on freedoms will become obsolete. It is already happening. The Patriot Acts and new copyright laws are seeing to that.

Just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

Two words = Judgemental + Ignorance

Who's to say that every person who takes marijuana has a weak mind and the non-marijuana users don't.

ANYONE can be ADDICTED to ANY DRUG!!!

Wrong....

Marijuana is not chemically addictive. Only psychology addictive; marijuana is only addictive to those with addictive personalities.

I still stand by my statement that 'anyone can be addicted to a any drug'. Its the 'feeling' that certain people get addicted to such as taking marijuana. If you are addicted to that feeling from taking marijuana, then you'll always want to have that drug. Hence, in a way you are addicted to the actual drug itself. Any drug has a potential to be addictive.

If thats what you believe in, you can continue feeding your naive judgements! You cannot look at drugs with a narrow mind...!

Anyone can be psychologically addicted to anything, not just drugs. It can be a certain behavior (attention seeking) or material (ice cream). There is the potential to be addicted if you are in the right frame of mind or have an addictive personality.

Is it better or worse to be addicted to gambling than to be addicted to marijuana? Either way, it depends on the individual how hard it is to break the pattern of behavior.

Marijuana is a gateway drug because it allows someone to dabble in drugs without physical ill effects in nearly all cases. If someone becomes unsatisfied with marijuana, they may take the next step to harder drugs. This does not mean that a marijuana smoker will definitely do this; it is just a first step that someone can take on the way to physically addictive drugs.

These articles came out today...

Study: Alcohol, tobacco worse than drugs

http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/...y_N.htm?csp=34

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle1468021.ece

LONDON — New "landmark" research finds that alcohol and tobacco are more dangerous than some illegal drugs like marijuana or Ecstasy and should be classified as such in legal systems, according to a new British study.

In research published Friday in The Lancet magazine, Professor David Nutt of Britain's Bristol University and colleagues proposed a new framework for the classification of harmful substances, based on the actual risks posed to society. Their ranking listed alcohol and tobacco among the top 10 most dangerous substances.

Nutt and colleagues used three factors to determine the harm associated with any drug: the physical harm to the user, the drug's potential for addiction, and the impact on society of drug use. The researchers asked two groups of experts — psychiatrists specializing in addiction and legal or police officials with scientific or medical expertise — to assign scores to 20 different drugs, including heroin, cocaine, Ecstasy, amphetamines, and LSD.

Nutt and his colleagues then calculated the drugs' overall rankings. In the end, the experts agreed with each other — but not with the existing British classification of dangerous substances.

Heroin and cocaine were ranked most dangerous, followed by barbiturates and street methadone. Alcohol was the fifth-most harmful drug and tobacco the ninth most harmful. Cannabis came in 11th, and near the bottom of the list was Ecstasy.

*snip*

It's a good read and helps put things in perspective from a scientific view. Hopefully it will spark change within the government to force proper legislation that reflects reality, not corporate paid bias.

I'd like to start by saying I have never smoked cannabis. I'm not simply defending it because I'm a user.

I may be mistaken, but marijuana was legal until Harry J. Anslinger made head of the United States' Bureau of Narcotics. He was extremely conservative, as well as a racist.

These are the reasons he gave for the illegalization of the drug:

"There are 100, 000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others."

"The primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races."

"Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death."

"Reefer makes darkies think they're as good as white men."

"Marijuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing."

The main reason marijuana was illegalilized in the United States is RACISM, and all other reasons provided are based on no sound evidence.

In addition, I do believe that the cottonfarmers of the US started a slandering campain against marijuana growers in the early 1930 so that there would be more land available for growing cotton...

And I do love the irony that both George Washington and Abe Lincoln, the idols of the US goverment both grew and used the stuff...

There is just one question to ask: Man made boose, God made grass. Who do you trust?

I only have one more thing to say, and I'll use the words of Peter Tosh to do so:

"Legalize it!"

It goes further than the right wingers and the cotton farmers - both which have been proven true.

Ever hear of the 'partnership for a drug free america'? They have all those adverts on american telly late night - you know - the old 'this is your brain on drugs' adverts.

Ever checked their membership list? That 'charitable' organisation is made up of AnheserBusch, Phillip Morris, R. J. Reynolds, Merck, and more.

Basically, all the cigarette, beer, and prescription drug manufactures who pay scientists to 'prove' all drugs are bad, except their drugs, which they omit for testing.

They spend billions a year lobbying keeping marijuana illegal among other things.

It's ironic the leading anti-drug group with the most power in American politics that stands a a beacon against drugs and has close ties to law enforcement and various other parts of the national government is comprised of what essentially is drug dealers, of course they peddle 'legal' drugs - legal because they fight to keep the others illegal.

Although there are other members, the majority of all funding comes from one of those three sectors of business - alcohol, tobacco, or medical producers.

This is brilliant.

Book details Army drug experiments

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washing...ts_N.htm?csp=1

Army doctors gave soldier volunteers synthetic marijuana, LSD and two dozen other psychoactive drugs during experiments aimed at developing chemical weapons that could incapacitate enemy soldiers, a psychiatrist who performed the research says in a new memoir.

The program, which ran at the Army's Edgewood, Md., arsenal from 1955 until about 1972, concluded that counterculture staples such as acid and pot were either too unpredictable or too mellow to be useful as weapons, psychiatrist James Ketchum said in an interview.

The program did yield one hallucinogenic weapon: softball-size artillery rounds that were filled with powdered quinuclidinyl benzilate or BZ, a deliriant of the belladonnoid family that had placed some research subjects in a sleeplike state and left them impaired for days.

Ketchum says the BZ bombs were stockpiled at an Army arsenal in Arkansas but never deployed. They were later destroyed.

The Army acknowledged the program's existence in 1975. Follow-up studies by the Army in 1978 and the National Academy of Sciences in 1981 found that volunteers suffered no long-term effects...

This article details some of the testing the U.S. government did on soldiers and secretly on people in the 50's, 60's, and 70's.

30 years of secret drug testing and what did they find?

And I quote...

Follow-up studies by the Army in 1978 and the National Academy of Sciences in 1981 found that volunteers suffered no long-term effects.

They also point out later soldiers after hearing what they were a part of tried to sue, based on what they claim now are the effects of drug use - however their cases were thrown out because studies show even highly powerful synthetic versions of these drugs have no long term side effects.

Makes you wonder then, eh? Considering how the government is trying to tell everyone that these drugs are bad and cause long term effects, while at the same time 30 years of testing proved they had no long term or detrimental effects - sentiments echoed in court to throw out claims made against these very drugs.

You also have to love the line... They describe soldiers on "red oil," an especially powerful form of marijuana, who smirked for hours and found even routine spatial reasoning tests to be hilarious.

Wow, people smoking up getting tired, and laughing -all with no long term side-effects. That sounds like something that should be banned.

That is eminently believable. Bans of this sort usually have to do with a challenge to a vested interest. Ever wondered why you can't by absinthe in your local liquor shop in the States?

We can here. And believe me, if it were dangerous, it would be illegal in Japan. It is illegal even to plant a poppy seed (yes, I have checked, and can cite the law if you want).

Illegal to plant poppy seeds? Why? Opium poppys or all poppys?

The literal text of the law forbids the cultivation of any plant which can be used to make opiates. Botany is not my strong point, but as I understand it that would include even the California Golden Poppy.
