I will to, I was being ostentatious by using it to begin with.
To answer your question, about one year now. I'll probably spend another year here in Tokushima before moving on to somewhere in Kansai (Kyoto is a lovely lovely place, Osaka is also a blast), or Hiroshima. I've heard that Fukuoka and Yamaguchi are also really great, though I've never been to either place. I just don't have any desire to return to California anytime soon...
It's quiet here and the people are generally friendly, but it can be pretty boring.

It's okay, I can sort of relate because sometimes I also slow down my pacing when reading a book because I don't want it to end too quickly *grins*. Now I really want to get my hands on that novel.

I agree; when I go back I want to live in a city.
If it were between Osaka and Kyoto I'd go for Osaka... (Maybe 'cause I lived there until I was 5, so it's still kinda like home when I go there.)
You seem to have good Japanese! (You must've studied a bunch before going there?)

I don't know if I could handle Tokyo, though. It's a cool place to visit, but there is just a stupendously large amount of people. The thought of riding a packed commuter train for 2-4 hours to and from work everyday isn't appealing at all.

Ma-ma. I took four courses in college and have been more or less studying since I arrived here. It seems to me that I should be more fluent than I am at this point. T_T
I passed the 3rd level of the JLPT, but I don't think I could pass the 2nd anytime soon.

Whoopsies, I meant Rote Learning; learning by repetition.
Extra stuff you don't need to read:
For example in my Ancient Greek class, we'll have a lecture on say... perfect and pluperfect and then spend some time on 3rd declension nouns, have a tute where we do some exercises and then it's just a case of us going over it until we get to next week where we do something new.
I think I got the "rope" part from the class being slightly shorter than most of my other classes, so it feels like you're hanging by a rope even when you're keeping up with it.
