I agree with one of the posts above that a 12 yr. old kids' thoughts are negligible...and for homosexuality, meh, some people say that they were born that way and it is in their genes. Actually I think that it depends how they were raised as a child.

Hmmm...strangely though I don't get disgusted seeing lesbians. But gay men...err...that's when my homophobia strucks. (no offense!)

It's okay, your irrational hatred of people based upon something so trivial as their sexual orientation hasn't offended anyone at all.

He didn't really say he hated them, my interpretation of it was that he finds watching gay men going at it gross. Which, even as a bi man, I can kinda understand for a straight guy.

I did not say I hate gay men that they should die or be wiped out on the face of the Earth, JCC :-( I just said that it's just plain weird and uncomfortable to be with them. Portrait of Sanity understands what I meant :-)

Why is it weird and uncomfortable to be with gay men?

Well in my country (Philippines), gay men are...exaggerating how women acts, talks, dresses, anything that girls do, hell even going to the ladies room. They wear "REVEALING" clothes, even with little kids around. And seriously I never get into casual conversations with them, they keep talking about...erm...sex. :-( Their not discreet, sadly.

Chances are you have no idea how many actual gay people you know, there are flamboyant people everywhere and the stereotype you described is somewhat prevalent but very few gays are even close to that.

Bloody hell, Komakino, in a mere three posts you've managed to:

- imply homosexuality is a character flaw caused by bad parenting

- say something stupid, hypocritical, paradoxical and annoying in the vein of: 'I
hate queers but I like watching chicks get it on'

- admit that you're uncomfortable around gay men purely based on some
hyperbolic stereotype

- imply that that is ok because it's not like you want them to die or anything

- imply that gays must be 'discreet', so they cannot cause
discomfort by unwittingly confronting ignorant straight people with their own
latent homosexuality

I hope you realize you sound like a total bigot!

I guess I have offended lots of people in three posts then, isobel black o_@.
Solumina, really, you have no idea how they're like here in my area. :-( And I'm not saying that all homosexual men Around The World are like what I described at my earlier post, -.-# (" Well in my COUNTRY ... ")

You mentioned where you are from and I happen to know a few homosexual men from your country and in no way do they fit the description that you gave, I stand by my statement as do they.

Because chances are, I wouldn't have talked.
I would have strangled.
Besides, I know enough homophobes to know that changing their minds would have been practically impossible because of what their parents are teaching them about homosexuality.
Who are they more likely to listen to? Some random girl who doesn't even know her own orientation or the people that are raising them?
I can only hope that they change their minds when they hit puberty....
That would be the time to strike.

For the most part, going around being ridiculous is unflattering, undignified, and will get you into trouble.

People still can do whatever the hell they want, of course, but I don't think it's bright.

Meh, I don't get grossed out when I see people macking on each other in public or anything like that, gay or straight. I also don't see anything wrong with gay folk being completely, ridiculously flamboyant if that's what they want to do. I agree that sometimes the flamboyant people give others an image of the entire gay community that's not necessarily true for everyone, but it's not their job to be the role model. Technically, it's nobody's job to be role models to anyone except their own kids.
The gay community shouldn't have to tone themselves down in order to make homophobes feel more comfortable around them. The homophobes should just grow the fuck up and get over it.

Komakino, I think you're a complete prat.

I agree with the last line.

Also, I'm from Hollywood. Those "So-flamboyantly-gay-that-some-of-it-MUST-be-tongue-in-cheek" gay people make me smile. They're so energetic! It's kind of catchy, they usually brighten up my mood.

The really really flamboyantly gay guys kinda give me the willies. I just can't talk to gay guys at all. It's just...awkward. I was raised in a conservative part of the country, and, well...their kind ain't welcome in these here parts.

[cue riff from Deliverance]

Consequentially I haven't been that exposed to gay people or gay culture. Therefore...I have no idea whatsoever how to talk to a gay guy in person without offending someone.

For some reason I never get this problem with the lesbians. Gay guys make me all "eeeeh" and I can't say a word, but get me talking to some lesbians and I'm perfectly fine.

I have been accused of being homophobic. Oddly enough, never by actual homosexuals. It's usually coming from teenage girls who are into yaoi and slash. And it's just because I can't stand the yaoi fanbase.

My dad on the other hand...

He's convinced, convinced there's some kind of gay agenda. Some kind of secret gay conspiracy to undermine the values our country was supposedly founded on, prey on our children (always with the children.) and take over the country.

..WTF? I mean, seriously. WHAT gay agenda? And this is coming from a moderate conservative.

The only gay agenda I see in existence is to end the kind of stupidity that gives rise to homophobia and discrimination against people who aren't cisgendered and straight.

And from what I understand, most gays just want to be left alone. Hooking that back to my awkwardness. If someone is very obviously gay, I do not feel comfortable talking to them because their apparent homosexuality is pretty much an elephant in the room. It's right there in the open, but I can't bring myself to say a word about it because I'm afraid of offending someone.

This

It's cute in a little kid kind of way, not a 'I like you' way.
