Hello
Hello.
I'm Beth, I'm 14.
I am constantly judged at school and moaned out about how I look. I'v had trouble with some 'mates', as they keep saying offensive comments about my clothes, taste of music etc. But it's getting better.
I joined this forum to talk to people who are similar to me =]
Beth.

I can relate to you in the fact that there aren't many people near me that are interested in similar things. What Gothic Rock or Deathrock bands are you into?
Do you do any DIY?

Evanescence isn't really goth. At all.
Do you actually like any goth music?

Welcome, and don't mind the obnoxious other n00bs.
I hardly listen to goth music and the only DIY I do is around the house.
Evanescence do suck, and they're not goth, but I have no problem with people liking them.
Since anyone who can be bothered can learn about "real" goth music with a quick internet search, it's nothing to get elitist about anyway.

I do some DIY yes.
I'm just starting to get in to the Goth music, that's all new to me.
I still like Evanescence, whether they're goth or not. And yes, I do like some death metal, although rock I like more. I'll post some bands I like later for you.

You seem mistaken.
We didn't ask if you liked Death Metal.
Deathrock and Death Metal are completely different genres.
Head over to the music section please.

I don't have a problem with her liking them either, just informing her that they:
a) Suck
b) Aren't goth

Give it a rest guys, this one seems reasonably intelligent. I love gothic rock and other post-punk as much as anyone, but I've found that lecturing people about it is a waste of energy. Jumping on someone just because she's an Evanescence fan also just makes you seem elitist and needlessly derisive.
Welcome to G-net, Beth. Are you years ahead of your peers in school, or is the British definition of college different from the American one?

Evanescence is cool, though I can't listen to them for long without tearing up. I'm interested to know what other bands you like. =)

Music forum, drac's blog. 'Nuff said in terms of the goth rock. She'll learn. I think she'll like deathrock once she reads around a bit.

She never once said that Evanescence was goth. In fact, she never said she listened to goth rock in the first place, which is fine, because a lot of people here don't.

Hey again all.
Sorry for my mistake earlier, when I said death metal I meant deathrock.
The college I go to is for 14-19 year olds, I'm 14.
In response to my music taste: I've only just started finding the real Goth bands, and I'm still seeing which ones I like and don't like.
As I've said, this is all new to me. I'm still learning.
Thanks,
Beth.

I really doubt it.
Just don't try too hard, please.

Ah, the equivalent of American high school then.

When she claimed to be goth and listed that as her favourite band and then proceeded to call deathrock death metal then I'm sure you can see where I'm coming from.
How many times have a heard that goth is just a sub-culture formed around music and a certain aesthetic? A lot. Therefore, I take it she's calling them goth by calling herself goth.

Please, I did not come here to argue about music. I just came here to have some friendly conversations. So I made a mistake, I meant nothing by it.
I just want to learn more.
Beth.

Exactly, so don't try to talk about things you don't know yet, i.e. trying too hard.

I'm currently jealous of all people in England... Epic banksy exhibit opened in the Bristol museum... I would give my left testicle to be able to see it.

Yeah, she did. Go to the "Dumped because I'm a goth?" thread in Whining.
