I just write, make it about nothing, eventually the flow triggers. Look at the wall, right about it, write about it until the wall get's a story for why there's a bug on it or a picture hanging from it. Even if it's not true, just write. It builds practice and makes your mind branch off to other things, a lot of brain storming, then you have an open canvas.

It depends on what I desire to write about. Usually I listen to some music while laying immobile on my bed. If I decide to write about something that has a specific atmosphere I take a stroll or try to experience the situation myself.
