I hate doctors.

I hate doctors, I really do. About a month and a half ago I started having head aches that lasted most of the day that would flare to migraines, nausea, vomiting. Then, about a week later I got a massive tooth ache. Went to the doctor figuring the whole thing was an infected tooth that was leaking little bacteria into my stomach. Tooth causing head ache, bacteria causing stomach problems. They gave me a script for antibiotics and pain pills and I made an appointment to see a dentist figuring all would be well after the dentist took care of the tooth.

Fast forward a week and a half. The tooth is gone, the pain pills are gone, the tooth/jaw feels fine and, unlike before the pain pills ran out, I have a head ache most of the day that flares into migraines. I go back in to see my doctor and they give me some BS about it being "rebound head aches" from the pain bills, however, they schedule a CT just to be sure and then schedule a follow up for one and a half weeks later. During that time I am to take no pain medications. That includes no form of OTC pain relief. I suck it up and comply, spending a week and a half in pain most of the day and agony the rest.

The week and a half goes by and I go back to see the doctor. They inform me the CT was clean, no cancer festering in my brain (o well, maybe next time) and prescribe me a preventative. Appointment is scheduled for two more weeks to follow up. Keep in mind, working in a call centre, I'm unable to work this whole time.

So today was the follow up appointment. The preventative has decreased the duration and severity of the migraines. They still come daily and the head ache is usually there when it isn't. I inform the doctor of this and reiterate the fact that not only can I not work this way but the I also mention the fact that, before I had to endure a week and a half of torture, I hadn't had to deal much in the way of migraines or head aches the whole time I was on pain medications while waiting for my dental appointment.

The doctor says he'll write me out a prescription for fioricet to deal with the continued migraines. I get home and look it up, I always look up medication before taking it, and he prescribed me a freaking barbiturate. Nasty little pills with side effects like face planting in a puddle of your own drool at worst and feeling of mild alcohol like intoxication at best. They also have another side effect of being addictive.

I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Well, the doubt has been erased. Shortly after arriving home a migraine started flaring up so I popped one of the pills and guess what? Instead of feeling like a painful head it feels like a painful head stuffed full of cotton. It hasn't even kicked in to its' fullest yet my train of thought has no tracks and my eye lids may as well be lead.

How is this better than a prescription of something like Tylenol 3 or Vicodin? There's been a few times where I've taken opiates for prolonged periods, other than recreation, and the only side effects were feeling very relaxed, itchy, energised (ADD, caffeine calms me *shugs*), and in a really good mood.

The worst part is that, in researching this medication, I found out there's a formulation of the same medication that has codiene in it. But no, doctors go out of their way to not prescribe stuff that actually works. Even more so if you're a guy. I work with this chick that started having the same issue after I did, not complicated by the infected tooth. By the time I went in to see the dentist she was back in to work with standing scripts for a purse full of stuff from 1,000mg naproxins to low grade narcotics.

This isn't the only instance I've seen where doctors wouldn't prescribe or clearly under prescribed pain medications. I had to rush a friend to the ER one night. While he was there they shot him up with all kinds of nice drugs like morphine. They scheduled him for surgery to have his gull bladder removed in a couple of days and sent him home with a script for 10 Vicodin 5mg's.

Anyway, I think I may have had more to say or maybe not. Hard to remember. Words are starting to blur together in my head and on my keyboard.

The girl was having the same problems as you and you both work in the same place? Anyone else having these problems or just you two?

I can't say with any certainty as I haven't been to work in like 2 months. Though my manager hasn't mentioned anyone else. Then again, the only reason I know about her is because my boss said something. Pretty much the jist of it was why the hell aren't you back at work, so and so is having the same problem and she got everything taken care of and all the medications she needs in two weeks. I asked what medications, there was like 3 of them, and then told him the one they had given me at that point, 1 preventative and nothing for the pain.

Suck deal... hope you get to feeling better soon.

I don't really care for doctors either.

My girl gets her script in like 4 more days and I can leach of her for a little while. As for something more permanent, will be at least another month until my next doctor's appointment. And that's if he'll get his head out of his ass and give me something decent.

Why is your next appointment so far away? It sounds like you and this doctor don't have the best relationship, maybe you should a new doctor.

I don't know, to give the medication I'm on a chance to start working? I've been going in every two weeks for the last month and a half. Seeing a new doctor could prove problematic when a need for, back lack of prescription for, pain medication is involved. Even if I were to switch of to a doctor that were more willing to prescribe pain medications, the fact that I'm switching off from a doctor that wanted to prescribe me something else instead could get it in the doctor's head that I'm a "drug seeker" and totally screw me over.

In general I try not to talk about crimes on internet forums. Let me see if I can find a good phrasing for this. In my younger days I was way into stimulants and chemistry was a hobby. I think poppies are pretty and have found I enjoy gardening. Maybe I can combine the old me and new me in order to help my situation.

I would just lay my hands on some Vicodin and have done with it. I usually don't go to the doctor unless I'm dying or whatever is bothering me is preventing ordinary movement.

If only it were that simple, my friend. My wife gets 120 a month, hers get filled in another day or so and she is out at the moment. The problem is that I have to take into consideration her needs as well. Two people using up a script of Vicodin meant to supply one is going to leave us both ass out half way through the month. Then again, my job pays far better and the insurance is through my job. Laugh, I'm not that cold.

So far as just "laying my hands on some." Sure, illicit pain pills are rampant around here. Problem is that I don't run in any circles, let alone those ones.

Go to another doctor, there are pain killers that are not habit forming, yes most of them are not as powerful as say Vicodin but they are better than extra strength Advil, most drug seekers go for a specific type of pain med so if you are open to any pain med then that is a pretty good indication that you really do need them and aren't just a user. Also you have a record that you have been dealing with the pain for long enough as is, if you were seeking drugs for a habit then you wouldn't have gone so long without them. Honestly I think seeing a different doctor would do you a lot of good and I don't think they would hold out on writing you a prescription, just make sure that you tell them how long ago you first went to the doctor you are currently seeing and that you were simply not happy with the quality of care that you were receiving and that you need to start a treatment that will let you get back to work.

Fucking great, after all day of calling the nurse's line, the nurse called my wife back. They're prescribing me Imetrex. Another fucking anti-migraine medication. What do I have to do to get it through these people's heads. The migraines aren't my biggest issue. Sure, they're debilitating. Though, a few hours in a nice cool candle lit bubble bath with an ice pack and I'm "ok". Its the non-stop headache that's the real issue. From the moment I wake up to the moment I pass out, though even that only lasts about 3-4 hours as that's about as much sleep as I get, my head hurts. The best I ever feel is your run of the mill "ouch, I have a head ache". A good chunk of the day I feel like slamming my head against a wall repeatedly to ease the pain.

On top of all this I'm starting to get dehydrated. In the last two days I've drank a gallon of water and two quarts of apple juice, no soda(doc said to cut the caffeine because it can cause headaches and it is also in my Fioricet), yet I"m still constantly thirsty.

Think I'm going to have to make a trip to the ER. At least there I'll probably get some IV fluids and pain medications. I'm really not looking forward to it. The idea of taking up their time for something so not emergency and most likely being treated like a piece of crap junkie is enough to make me want to cry.

Then again, maybe it is starting to reach emergency levels as taking the whole bottle of barbiturates that they prescribed me is starting to sound more and more like a reasonable idea.

Fun day, had to make a trip to the ER this morning. They shot me up with some stuff, did some blood work and did an MRI. When my wife asked about a prescription for something for the pain they just said to follow up with regular doctor. Problem is that, not only does he only seem interested in prescribing me really expensive crap that does nothing for me, when I tried to call it turns out they're only open Mon-Thurs.

Fuck, I'm getting tired of this crap. Taking up heroin is starting to sound like a good idea.
