Well, basically because MSN and AIM isn't designed as chatrooms like IRC. MSN and AIM is basically made for one on one chats while IRC is ideal for gamers and the like to make rooms for a lot of people to communicate together without crossinviting and similar crap needed to do such things on MSN and AIM. On IRC, you just have to connect and enter, then you are connected to everyone else in that channel, this giving it a serious advantage to MSN when it comes to gamers and the like.

Wait, I'm confused.
Is Ventrillo IRC?
I remember in a game I used to play, instead of typing shit during wars, people would use vent and headsets. Similar or am I completely off?

No Ventrillo is not an IRC it is a voice chat system, though I think it does have an IRC in it as a little extra thing, though I dont know since I dont use it. IRC is a text chat system which is used in many games due to its simple format.
