God damn double standard....racism!!!!! I know this might sound racist in itself but I'm sick and tired of hearing stupid stories like this...where the black person is always the victim! Even about small things for christ sakes. Fuck...I know black people who are awesome, listen to good music, and know how to act in a proper society, but then there are those that ruin it for them because they act like complete idiots. Example. I used to work in customer service... A lady calls saying that she wants to return something that she already had for a year... I tell her that our policy distinctly says no returns past 14 days...I didn't think ONCE "oh shes black"...But what does she do?? She starts yelling at me and tells me that the only reason why I don't want to do the return is because she's black...I told her that wasn't the case and she kept repeating herself and asked for my manager...she ended up complaining to her that I was being rude and racist towards her... GRR...sorry off subject but it pissed me off.

But going back to the thread's purpose. Fuck yeah, it has a good enough reason to be treated as a hate crime.

It is a hate crime....
But alot of states are still extremely racist and the people will do things like so...
Its ignorant and retarded and rather pointless to act in such a manner or hate someone over something as stupid as their ethnicity with so manny other things to hate people about.... like them mearly being human....
But it does exist and it does happen and when it does it shoud be brought out in the light and be told....
Something should have been done regarding these men befor it came to this kid getting beaten like when his girlfriend was shot with the paintball pellets thats assault....
Who gives a damn who dates who?
Are there not better things to fixate on?

I get that it was an act of racism, but isn't the point of charging someone with a hate crime is to make sure that the local white justice system doesn't sweep violence against minorities under the rug? Correct me if I'm wrong but I always thought that was the point, to make sure crimes against minorities aren't ignored.

South Park is really fucking stupid some times. Parker and Stone call themselves 'libertarians' and you know how those people are; they're oh-so-self-righteous because they are 'neither left nor right' and believe the answer is 'somewhere in the middle' which is fucking stupid because the democrat/republican dichotomy is hardly representative of the political spectrum.

As such, it's not surprising that their opinion on hate crimes is stupid. Saying that "every crime is a hate crime" sounds like a nice way to sum up things, you dust off your hands, and walk towards the sunset with a smug smile on your face, knowing that you left everyone impressed.
But not only does that ignore crimes our of desperation that have nothing to do with bad will towards other people, even crimes of passion; it also completely ignores the fact that black people, homosexual people, and increasingly latinos, are targeted for xenophobic brutality.

A REAL argument would be that harsher punishment for hate crimes does not deter hate crime; not that hate crime itself should not be different than other types of crime.

First of all, I did not know they were libertarians. Second, I don't care. They could be a flying spaghetti monster. Third, I don't smile in front of people I don't like, and the smug look on my face is rather stoic looking. Fourth, I tip my hat to you for the crimes of desperation, and passion. Nice touch with that. Although even in my darkest hour(does a walking corpse sound like something that would fall into the category of "desperation"?) That was my understanding as well, although I would change the white justice system to "good ol' boy" justice system as it is also used to help with crimes against women and now, in some places, crimes against homosexuals.

Honestly I think this needs to be given a bit more time to play out as the police are working on the case, crimes like this are not solved instantaneously and it doesn't really seem like things would be handled differently if it was being treated as a hate crime.
