Steel Pulse

So, once I made some very stupid comments about Reggae and had my ass thoroughly handed to me. Then I decided to go look up some reggae, and oh my god, it's a world of sweet, Jamaican wonder.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4bNM4epZhU

Unbelievable, I love this band.

I don't listen to much reggae but out of what I've heard so far, Dillinger is my favourite.

I was in Amoeba records the other day with my mate, they played the ENTIRE ALBUM. I was just bobbin around, mellow as jello.

Agreed, Steel Pulse is awesome.

I only listen to a little reggae, but I listen to a lot of ska. I love the really oldschool ska, and some of the newer stuff, but I could never wrap my head around west-coast ska... It annoys me that dirty hippies play ska when their lifestyle is the opposite of the skinhead ethos. There's no dignity in being a hippy, haha.

Ska started in the 1950s in Jamaica as a mixture of mento, calypso, American Jazz, and Rhythm & Blues. It only became popular with the skins later. So your skinhead ethos argument is bunk as junk.

I think of Propagandhi's Ska Sucks now whenever someone mentions it. I had a few friends who decided ska was cool and the music they played was hoooorrible, I know there's good ska bands out there but after that I just want to stay away from it.

I should get into Reggae again though.

Ska is great. Ska punk or 'Third wave ska' or whatever other name people want to give to it sucks.

I've never listened to them. I'm willing to admit that there are exceptions, but I'm sure ska punk is the shitty genre Saya's talking about.

You'd like them. Anarchist Ska/Punk. Not Ska Punk. They have ska elements in a few songs, but not all of them.

Against All Authority is pretty ok. I'm more of a Citizen Fish kinda guy.

Plus, we should all love The Specials!
