Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

music to dream by...
Do you have any favorite bands or CDs to play as you're laying in bed trying to fall asleep?
The past couple nights I've been having The Cure- Disintegration playing from my bedside table.

I've often awoken with Plainsong playing in my head. It's very soothing and dreamlike. But I'm afraid the only music I fall asleep to is the white noise of a fan.

Bauhaus - Go away white.
And I love Waking up to Alien Sex Fiend - Acid Bath Album. Quite possibly my favourite album of all time...

Disintegration is good, but I need to keep changing the tunes so there's no one thing.
And sometimes its loud music that makes me sleep. Like my brother bought me Blizzard Of Oz when I was 15 or so for Christmas. I have never listened to the whole thing, it put me to sleep by whatever song number five was.

You know, this thread could be a two edged sword. I mean, saying you can fall asleep to music by band "xyz" is almost like saying they put you to sleep. Not exactly a compliment eh?

I think it wouldn't be a compliment either. Maybe a "this put me to sleep" suffix to the message would be in order.

Well, I mean it in the way of music which is relaxing. To me being relaxed is a good thing. The term "falling asleep to" something truly could be taken as good or bad, which I suppose I didn't take into account in the first place. It had been quite a while since falling asleep to music for me and I'd forgotten how wonderful it can be and was hoping to expand my horizons a bit. Don't mean to place offense on any bands!

Johnney Rebel put me to sleep. Really boring if not hilarious.
I don't know. I think it's most country that puts me to sleep.(When I'm already tired mind you.)

Yeah, Aphex Twin's ambient stuff is good. Other than that it's pretty much classical or soft jazz only - I like to do some heavy-duty daydreaming when I'm trying to get to sleep, so lyrics are a no-no.

Pretty much anything by Wereju, but in particular "The Light Of Life Undone" was in my tape deck for damn near forever since I got it.

Well anything from Mazzy Star is nice to fall asleep to. It is so pretty and relaxing and always sends me into a dream-like state of mind. xD
I also like to listen to Bat for Lashes when I'm trying to relax... Something about the music and her voice... It's lovely!

I'm not musically limited. That's just the stuff I like to listen to when going to bed. Really, why the fuck have you just ripping on me lately? It's starting to piss me off, I admit I can annoy, but you know what live with it. This entire board has been going to shit for almost a year now.
It's al because you and your fucking holier than thou jackass morons have been doing this thing to everybody. "you're not goth enough to be here, shut up, I'm better than you" etc, etc.
Maybe if you got to know me you'd know that I'm a deeper person than what I put on to be on the forums. So don't go and fucking judge me!
And when I post this, you and a bunch of your other jackbooted thugs are going to gang up on me anyways.

sleepy music for me would be along the lines of cocteau twins or black tape for a blue girl, but i like listening to more atmospheric music so i can not so much sleep, but dream. maybe not what most people would like to fall asleep to, but i enjoy it
the bands that typically give me an interesting night of dreaming are:
sopor aeternus
xiu xiu (this will most likely result in nightmares hah)
good ole Dmitri Shostakovich!

I really love Shiva in Exile for relaxing to. If you haven't heard them, I suggest checking them out, they have an awesome atmosphere.
I don't know why but I find Nortt really relaxing as well, whatever floats your boat I guess!

Currently, a nice soulful song called "Affirmation" sends me off to the land of Nod.
However, A Perfect Circle's cover of "When the Levee breaks" is absolutely blissful.
