Fashion DIY tips and gratuitous plugs. And hair. Hair! Flow it, show it. Wait...no. That's some hippie musical. Nevermind. |

I found a baby deer's skeleton in the woods while I was tripping ballssss on acid, haha. It was a very cool experience. There were still bits of hair and rotting nastiness on some of the bones. I collected a whole bunch of the vertebra, but I didn't find the little bones; those are from necromance.

I hate you. I NEVER find anything like that! Oh no, I did find a squirrell which didn;t even have the decency to rot properly and I could't use it
I've not even found so much as a rabbit skull!

Aw, bummer. :[ I find a lot of deer bones because of all the hunting that goes on around here, and a lot of hunters just kill and leave the deer, or they dump the bones back into the woods after they butcher them up. There are always little critters around my house, too. I found a perfectly sunbleached groundhog skull and two vertebra not too long ago. I made a necklace out of those vertebra as well, but I don't remember if I've ever posted the picture.

I'm not even close to being obsessed with bones. If I happen to find some lying in the grass, I'll pick them up and put them to good use, but it's not as if I go out searching for them.

I made a fitted apron with deep, incredibly useful pockets. I had some denim curtains lying around.. so I cut them up and put them back together in a way that made them far more useful than they were before. Unfortunately no one's really gonna see it put to use as I only wear it around the house when I'm being domestic.

I know this dude who lives in Russia now who's got around 75 complete skeletons of various different animals ( including 2 human skeletons ).
I'm not too interested in bones, I prefer insects in lucite.

Nah you've posted it, I was jealous. How the hell did you manage that? Where'd you find the pattern? Please don't tell me you've made it up or I'll throw my needles into the disposal.

Its an illusion pattern, see where in the first picture how the alien face rises from the rest of the green rows? Thats from switching from a knit stitch to a purl, or rather knitting on the opposite side so on the right side it comes up as a purl (you know how in stockinette everything on the right side is all nice V knit stitches? Well thats from knitting a row then purling a row, so if you knit on that purl row on the opposite side you'll get a purl instead). Knit stitches are flat but purls pop up, so the whole thing is basically just getting a picture to rise up by following a chart, knitting on the wrong side will cause purls on the opposite side so you just knit where the green or black is to stand out.
I got the pattern from Stitch And Bitch, although now that I get how its done I'm going to try to make my own pattern next time. I found a copy of the pattern online if you want it: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandsty...d.zoewilliams1
just ctrl+f for "alien" and it'll get you to the pattern, its a long article. It has the chart you need to follow in pdf.

Mr S. finished my new sewing room, and now I've made a knee-length vinyl skirt, a tea-length skirt fashioned from draped and swirled black lace and black and purple striped fabric with an underskirt embellished with crocheted trim, and a silky, ankle-length skirt cut to mimic the ragged lines of rotting curtains. Plus, I've made numerous alterations to bought shirts and trousers. Yay workspace!
