The new Silent Hill for the wii...

Is it true that you don't receive any weapons at all in the game and just have to run from the monsters? I actually just started Silent Hill Homecoming a few days ago and am contemplating whether or not to try the wii one once I'm finished. I can't imagine not being able to fight back at all during the game, heh I'd at least like a lead pipe or something! Has anyone played that one and can give me feedback? (Yes, I know I can just read reviews but often times they can be rather impersonal plus I'd like a variety of opinions...)

I have it but I haven't finished it, actually I'm not very far at all. Slient Hill scares the shit out of me, and the prospect of not being able to fight back is terrifying. So yes, you can't fight back, you have to fucking run. If you hide in a closet and they find you, they tear you out of it. It hasn't happened yet but if you crawl into a hole, they might grab your legs and pull you out. Soooo I'm putting off playing this game by myself and focusing on a few other games while I try to muster up the courage or talk a friend into keeping me company...while reading off of gamefaqs for me to reassure me XD.

I haven't played Homecoming, but I can say that this is scarier than Origins by a longshot, and is on par with the original four I think.

I LOVE the Silent Hill games. Horror movies haven't scared me since I was little but those games make me jump and freak out because it's creepier when the monsters are actually after YOU! (Yes, yes, technically I know they're after your character but it is essentially you, haha.) I just got my radio back in Homecoming (you actually lose it for a while) and as creepy as it is to suddenly hear static it's even creepier when they suddenly just appear behind you. With Homecoming I'm really good at freaking myself out... you start off the game in a hospital and basically everything in the rooms can be moved or knocked over by your character. I'm really obsessive in games and search every inch looking for ammo, med kits, etc... and I kept knocking over chairs, IV stands, and other stuff and being like "*gasp* Oh my god, what was that????" haha

Did you play the first Silent Hill game? Shattered Memories is a retelling of the first game, its not a remake since its a lot different, and the gameplay changes based on things you do. Like if you look too long at this sleazy poster the characters and monsters become more sexualized, etc, its really trying to see what makes you tick.

When I last played it I walked into a room and quite suddenly the static started screaming after a long period of silence, I had to put down the controller and turn it off, the anticipation is what kills you!

Yeah, I heard it was in the vein of the first one.... the first and second ones are the two that I've played the most. And I agree, the static always psyches me out! I think it was in the second game, I was in the hospital and I had just gotten into the elevator and gone to the next floor... the door opens and first thing I hear is really loud static. I let out the girliest scream and made the door close again, haha. Also hearing Pyramid Head/Red Pyramid dragging his blade around on the ground... *shudders*

I hate it when you find the flashlight in the second one that mannequin pops up out of no where, no warning with static. Also in the prison with that invisible monster, it was maddening! And yeah, Pyramid Head was terrible too, I hate hate hate hate hate the part where you have to run from him to the elevator. When I first played it I threw the controls into the hands of my roommate and made her run (we played it together, taking turns).

Ahhh the running to the elevator part always got me! Also, what about in the second one near the end when you're in the hotel and you have to unequip all your stuff, even the radio and flashlight, to get in that special elevator and go down into the basement? That was so stressful! Haha I went to gamefaqs on that one to make sure I reaaaally had to leave everything behind...

Of course that damn air siren always gets me too, even when it's kind of expected. In Homecoming when you're in the hospital, you go into one of the bathrooms, the mirror is broken, and there's a hunting knife sticking out of it (first weapon). I pulled it out and of course that damn siren went off, the walls started peeling away, and one of the bathroom stall doors burst open. I KNEW something would happen after getting my first weapon but still... hearing that siren I still I get that "oh shit..." feeling in my stomach, haha.
