Gun attack at Mexico student party leaves 13 dead
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8490366.stm
Quote:
Gunmen have killed 13 people at a high school student party in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez.
Two adults and 11 teenagers died, while about two dozen others were injured, as the attackers fired indiscriminately on partygoers, according to reports.
It was not immediately clear if anyone at the party was linked to the drug gangs that have made Ciudad Juarez one of the world's most dangerous cities.
At least 15 other people died in the city, on the US border, at the weekend.
Witnesses said the gunmen drove up to the house in several cars late on Saturday or in the early hours of Sunday.
Scattered bodies
They began shooting at people from outside the property before moving inside, and pursued some of the youngsters trying to escape over a fence.
The men drove up in four SUVs, went into the house and shot at everyone, you could hear the gunfire all around

Q&A: Mexico's drug-fuelled violence
The bodies of the victims - whose ages reportedly ranged from 15 to 20 - lay scattered around the house.
Unnamed police officials told AP news agency that witnesses had counted at least 15 attackers.
"The men drove up in four SUVs, they were well-armed. They went into the house and shot at everyone, you could hear the gunfire all around," said a neighbour at the scene, quoted by Reuters news agency.
Ciudad Juarez, straddling a highly lucrative drug-smuggling route into the US, is the scene of a vicious ongoing turf war between rival cartels.

Some 45,000 troops and extra police have been deployed to crack down on the gangs in the city, across the border from El Paso, Texas.
But the campaign has done little to curb the bloodletting - more than 7,000 people reportedly died in Mexican drug-related violence last year.
Beheadings, attacks on police, and shootings in clubs and restaurants are a daily occurrence in some regions.
In two of the worst attacks in 2009, gunmen stormed drug rehabilitation clinics in September, killing nearly 30 people.

I just want to survive this semester and I can move to the other side of the river. At least I didn't recognize any of the names of the murdered guys.
But you know, it's kind of funny. This just happened today, close by, and I'm trying to think which friends might have known them, but because I'm posting this here, I'm also just thinking of saying:
Seriously Deadman. Fuck you. You think you live in tough shit because you can't have forty weapons to rub your dick with? You think you're a tough guy? You don't know shit and haven't lived shit. Maybe when you actually see real shit go down you will learn to shut the fuck up.

So you some how feel justified in yelling at me for what happened in Mexico?
How emotionally charged and immature that is.

You live in Georgia though, so your opinion is void.

More people for one, so we could invade you, and win.
Plus, Atlanta is like the dumbest city I've ever been to, other than Dallas.

More ppl does not a successful invasion ensure.

POS, I agree with you from experience about Dallas ... what makes them the sore thumb of the group is they are arrogantly proud of their ignorance. I have only had a few unpleasant cups of coffee in the Atlanta airport (I really dislike that airport) so I can't speak about the populace there. But I've run into a boatload of stupid people in Chicago, so basing the worth of your remarks on the intelligence of your city is not valid.
How about basing the worth of your remarks on the fact that you would be more likely to be the victim of random gun violence in Chicago than in a person in Atlanta would be.
Alan, I hope no one you know was involved. Get that degree ... and get the hell out.

I guess I put that poorly. I wasn't commenting on intelligence, just that Atlanta sucks in general.

Atlanta is nice IMO. It's spread out, so you get the large city feel, but there is plenty of room.

I found it amazingly boring. Nothing stands out as a reason to go there at all.

That's because it is a "quiet" town. You have to know where to go.
I assume you don't.

I'm not sure I would call Atlanta "quiet", considering it's crime rate. Sure Chicago might have more crime, but it also has more people. On a rating scale from a website I just briefly looked up, on a scale of 1-100(100 being the safest) chicago came up with a 9, which would seem horrible except when you compare it to Atlanta's 1.

This could be reduced if users in the United States stopped buying cocaine and heroin. When an American buys these drugs as a "victimless crime" it buys death for someone somewhere else.

Yeah, I had a relative who was a Columbian politician trying to make a stand against such things, unfortunately since he couldn't be bribed, so the drug lords threatened him out of the country.

At least change is slowly moving in the direction to affect underground economics of the problem: it is now legal in California to grow small amounts of cannabis for personal use. This will cut down on U.S. demand a little.

Indeed. It's eight mature plants, I believe. You can also cultivate twice as many immature plants. I'm not too sure about the specific numbers, I didn't pay attention to that when I got my medical marijuana referral because I don't plan on growing any plants.
