Geisha, I love your tattoos. They're very colourful and cartoony. And your falls... but I love all falls.

ToiB, Damn! I love your figure... It's so elegantly feminine.

Thank you all for your nice comments. It truly warms my heart to see words like "classy," "elegant" and "poise" describing me. The image I have of myself is geeky and clumsy.

Because I used to have a birth defect that made me look slumped, I am paranoid about my posture. I think people really underestimate the effect of good posture - standing up straight makes you look more confident and alert (and slimmer!).

And in case anyone is wondering just how tall is the Tall One In Black... I'm 5'10". In those photos, I was around 6' in boots.

Hah. I know what you mean. I've always had a complex about my height. I have this recurring horror where I end up both short and bald. Tall girls especially are a little bit intimidating - not that I'm afraid of them but that I see them as off-limits somehow - like they're out of my league. I don't know - hard to explain.

joyslayer,
So it's you who is hoarding all the tall guys! You should tell them to disperse so that we Amazons can have a chance to find a guy taller than us!
And don't sweat 5'5" - you're taller than the average woman.

Manimal,
I've been referred to as intimidating more times than I care to remember. It's quite twisted, really, since I feel anything but intimidating. Usually I feel overgrown and out of place around other women. They're all so pretty and feminine, and I'm a female Ichabod Crane. I would be hesitant to date someone under 5'8" not because I'd see him as undergrown, but because I'd feel freakishly overgrown and awkward.

I would think that a "short" guy (say 5'7" or so) would have loads of women eyeing him, but sadly women seem to insist on dating men several inches taller than themselves. I don't quite understand that because it's terribly inconvenient when your partner is half a foot taller than you. Having a partner who is about your height is great because your bodies fit together perfectly. I've only dated one guy who was significantly taller than me - he's 6'4" - and I found it annoying that our bodies didn't line up properly. It's no fun hugging someone's armpit! :P

I'd rather die than be submissive. And I get indignant at the thought that I might need protecting. I'm rabidly and stubbornly independent, and I firmly believe that I can take care of myself (probably because I've been doing it my whole life). For those reasons, I would not want to be with someone who towered over me and made me feel submissive.

However, a woman not cursed with my ridiculously enormous independent streak would enjoy the benefits of being with a big man.

Bottom line is: The only thing that really matters is that you're with someone who makes you happy.

Yeah, but just becasue I am small compared to him, does not mean I am the submissive one. Just being a woman, we have MANY advantages over men that they can't even dream of.

Being "small" is not always what it appears to be.

I actually like it when men try to dominate me but fail to do so, as I find it amusing that certain men think that they can control me or put a leash on me. Some men don't like the fact that I can actually look after myself and support myself, both emotionally and financially.

Being submissive is good to an extent, as I think it can be healthy to be able to be submissive and dominant in any relationship, just not taken to the extreme.

Exactly, what is your definition of "extreme"?

I should probably clarify that I don't like being submissive... or dominant either. I want a 50/50 relationship. I want give and take on both sides, with both parties on equal footing.

I never gave much thought to walking alone at night. I don't think I'd be good prey - I'm big, I walk fast, and apparently I give off waves of intimidation. Ha! :P

My boyfriend does protective things for me. At first I took them the wrong way and was slightly insulted, but now I know that he does those things because he cares about me, not because he thinks I can't take care of myself. For example, he insists on walking on the side of the sidewalk nearest the road.

When one party is very weak and dominated by the other.

Sometimes its the only way a relationship would work for some people (assuming they might not mature somewhat and lighten up/stand up for themselves)...I had a girlfriend once that was incredibly mean-spirited and manipulative, and she hated when I would stand up for myself, and because of that tension it didnt work out....of course I learned my mistake after just putting up with it for awhile...took two years to learn my lesson.

I'm talking about dominance on a larger scale.

An example, the guy controls who the girl can see and talk to, what she wears etc.

Yeah, that would be completely sad, that one person would do that to another. Honestly, the only time I've seen something like that (since I havent seen it in real life) was in an episode of CSI where a guy had all the cabinets in the house locked up with a chain and Masterlock so his "mail order bride" couldnt eat any food... Its frustrating to think one person could do things like that to another

*butting in*

What about the good submission/dominance, when it is freely given?

It bothers me when guys think that I am supposed to, for whatever reason, be a shy and shrinking voilent, symbolic of the 'weaker' sex. Who the hell do they think they are, woohoo you got a wrinkled little dinky between your legs...let me bow down and worship all that is man - Blegh!

But, my mister respects me as his equal, and never talks down to me. I like to be submissive to him because it feels great. But him and I both know that it's because I want to, NOT because he's better than me or vice versa.

I think that consensual powerplay and forced submission are two totally different things.

One denotes two equals choosing different roles they feel comfortable in, and the other denotes disrespect.

In other words, I may be his little subbie but I'll still knock you out with a crowbar if you think you deserve submission from me...

Not all guys are like that BH.

I look at women as our equals, if not our betters, and I love being submissive to them every now and then. Strong willed women are hot.

Oh no, during my rant session did I come across as a man-hater?

Good! Bastards...just kidding.

No, I definitely don't believe that all men automaticaly want women to be submissive. Just most.

I have been a mechanic for 4 years and let me tell you, it is a rare man that doesn't mind working alongside a competent woman.

Strong women totally rock, agreed, oh yes.

Am I going to hell for thread jacking yet?
