I really should look into something like netflix though...which apparently isn't available in Canada, dammit! We have Zip which is apparently a piece of shit, and more expensive.

They have instant viewing online though, don't they? Which no similar service in Canada offers >.< I kinda feel bad because I don't really buy movies anymore, sometimes I'll buy an obscure film that I can't find online at all but I just rarely watch films more than once, unless I really liked it.

Funnily enough, I started watching Silent Running just the other day. I kinda liked the concept, but I just couldn't go through with it...... the acting was so embarrassing, my gf and I were alternating between cringing and pausing so we could piss ourselves and imitate in stupid voices. We only lasted like twenty minutes. Although around ten of those were howling at the part where he finds out the gardens are about to be destroyed and goes back, then the eagle comes and lands on his arm like Sleeping fuckin' Beauty. Hilarious.
I really don't mind shabby effects - to be honest I kind of think they're part of the charm with older movies. A good concept, good writing and good acting can make laughable effects into a great movie.

Well, I liked "Silent Running", but I do know the best acting in the film was done by Huey, Duey and Louie.
But you know, bad acting isn't always a detriment. How many years do you think people would have remembered "Planet of the Apes" if it weren't for Charlton Heston chewing up the scenery and yelling, "GET YOUR STINKING HANDS OFF ME YOU DAMNED DIRTY APES!" Ha ha ha!

No, the selection of titles available for instant viewing is an embarrassment of riches. I have over 440 movies and TV shows in my Instant Watch queue!
For a $9 a month subscription and the use of a broadband connection, it's the best commercial entertainment value around.** And with the free DVD they sent me to use with my Playstation 3, I can watch the instant streaming videos on my 47 inch flat screen TV and it looks GOOD!
In fact, it's how I found out about a hilarious britcom called "The IT Crowd" that I'd never heard of before. I've finished the first and am halfway through the second season in two days!
** - I said "commercial" to circumvent the wise ass who wants to post "it's not a better value than watching everything for free."

Envy. The closest thing we have is something like thirty dollars to get movies through the mail, but nothing online. And since Canada Post is extremely slow there's no real point, might as well rent at Blockbuster (which I do for movie nights with friends).

Hahaha I love IT Crowd!!! It's a pity they didn't continue the show. If I remember correctly it's only up to 3 seasons, right?
