Hello

Hi, I'm Angela and I am new here. I have read the intro posts of other newbies, so I'll be sure to introduce myself properly. I don't want anyone to have to break out the flame-throwers. I'm from oil covered southern Louisiana and we have had enough explosions lately. (Thanks BP!)

1. What do you do? (Hobbies, job)
I work in Human Resources part time for a home improvement warehouse. I am also a mom to 3 year old nudist daredevil, so I am not easily shocked. I enjoy reading, cooking with my husband, traveling, and hitting the museums downtown.
2. Where are you from?
Lafayette, Louisiana. I know most people hate being from a small town (especially in the south), but I like it here. It has some drawbacks, but I am proud of my Cajun heritage.
3. Who is your favorite author?
I read a lot of biographies and books on history, but I also love books about old Hollywood. I love Hollywood Babylon by Kenneth Anger. My humorous side loves Hollis Gillespie and my "loves a good train wreck" side likes Jt Leroy. And J.J. Reneaux (local) retells all of my favorite cajun folktales just like my grandma would.
4. What are your favorite films?
Raise the Red Lantern, The Changeling (the George C. Scott movie, not the Angelina Jolie movie by the same name), A Steetcar Named Desire, and really bad 80's horror movies (my favorite is Night of the Demons).
5. What music do you want played at your wedding?
I am married, but there was no "wedding". I am not into that sort of thing. I didn't dream about it for years and I didn't practice writing my "married" name in a notebook a hundred times with little hearts and flowers.
6. At your funeral?
I don't know, funerals are more for those left behind and how they remember the deceased. For my dad's funeral, one of his cousins sat next to the casket and told jokes. I'm sure it seems a bit odd, but it was perfect for everyone that knew him.
7. This IS a gothic website, so... how do you want to die?
I'd prefer to be surprised. Hopefully it will be of old age. I intend to be a crazy old cat lady with blue hair and I'm gonna draw my eyebrows on with a hot pink lip liner in a shape that makes me look like Spock. Old people can get away with anything because people think that they are going senile.( I can't wait- I have so many ideas of crazy crap to do that are sure to land me in some nursing home/ mental institution)
8. What kind of casket would you want?
Something simple and inexpensive. I don't want to leave my family in debt and I will be dead, so who cares?
9. What's your FAVORITE outfit?
It's a toss up between swim trunks (with flames on it)paired with fireman boots and Black and Decker safety vest/ goggles or Mardi Gras beads and nothing else. Those are my son's daily uniforms.
10. What's one thing you miss about being a little kid?
See the answer to #9. Watching my son explore the world is the funniest thing in my life. I really miss the days of being a kid and believing that magic exists, but seeing him becoming an individual and form his own opinions on everything really takes the sting out of it. (Even though he only wants to listen to Lady Gaga in the car- I won't hold it against him.)
11. What's your favorite band?
Bauhaus, Joy Division, Sleater-Kinney, and the solo work of Gitane Demone has been in heavy rotation here. (When I am not forced to listen to Lady Gaga that is)
12. What kind of education do you have? What is/was/will be your major?
High school only unfortunately. My dad became ill when I was set to start college, so I went to work to help the family instead. I am thinking of studying early childhood education soon though, maybe next fall.
13. Why did you join?
For shits and giggles.
14. If the first 13 questions didn't give it away. What is your gender?
Female

Hey, thanks everyone and sorry that the text was so massive and darn near unreadable. It is hard to type when being choked by a 3 year old heathen. To quickly answer all of your questions:

-Yes, I am a real Cajun. 100% coonass. I am part of the first generation in my family to have English as a first language. I don't speak French very well but I understand enough to know all of my Grandma's best gossip.

-Yes, Saya, that is my little menace's big debut! My Grandma kind of pushed her way into the delivery room and then ignored all of the surgeon's instructions and got close enough to take that awesome shot.

-As for becoming a crazy old cat lady, I really do hope to live long enough to become one. Both of my parents died of cancer before they turned 50, so the odds may be against me. But damn it, I WILL make the most of it if I do. Stray cats already know how to find me, so I'm half way there.

I have had some strange run-ins with the elderly and I have been taking mental notes. Here is just a few things that I have encountered and plan to do as often as possible.

- I WILL draw my eyebrows in with lip liner. (Saw a cute little old lady that did this and at first I kind of felt sorry for her until I realized that she just probably doesn't give a shit and is laughing on the inside.)
-I WILL just break wind whenever I damn well please, but I will pretend that I didn't hear it and am completely oblivious.
-I WILL use a public restroom but not close or lock the stall door then pretend to be startled if someone peeps in.

That is only a few ideas. I have many more, but I could probably fill this entire page with my ramblings.

I hope you're not catching the fume effects that some folks near the coast are reporting. People are reporting that at best it smells like a gas station on a bad day and at worst it's making them feel lightheaded, nauseous and giving them headaches. So I hope you're not dealing with that, on top of the other stresses this disaster has put on people in your area. I'm in Houston, but it really doesn't look like it's going to impact us much here (says the guy who doesn't fish for a living.)

I really like your descriptions of your 3 year old nudist daredevil. He's lucky to have a mom who's entertained by his antics and who encourages his imagination.

This sounds fantastic! I was already gonna try to have everybody get drunk. I wonder if I can put "Hire a stand-up comic for my wake" in my will?

You can be a crazy old cat lady, but don't be "crazy old lady with too many cats" lady. Every 3 or 4 years I read a news story about an old woman who has so many cats in her house that you can smell it down the street. I remember being horrified hearing about a woman in Milwaukee whose house had to be condemned and razed to the ground. I lived in Milwaukee at the time, and my horror was doubled because I'm severely allergic to cats. The thought first occurred to me then and is one of my worst reoccurring nightmares now that someone could move in near me, take in too many cats and make it so I can't breath outside my own house.

You did say you were married, so I won't imagine YOU in Mardi Gras beads and nothing else. But you have given me an idea to pass on to my SO. LOL!

I'm glad your son gives you a break from the Gaga from time to time. Your tastes sound interesting, and your writing ... intelligent.

Welcome to this place. I look forward to your contributions.
