"It's just a theory" to me is like leaving an argument undone because you ran out if things to say/explain your thought. But if you backed it up good then its ok to say "it a theory" the "just" just sounds to lazy.

Not sure what all the fuss is about. I can imagine getting defensive over my own original ideas, but if someone doesn't want to take it for granted that gravity works exactly like Newton said it did or that the theory of evolution is incomplete or possible wrong in as of yet unforeseen way then its no skin off my back.

When people say "it's just a theory" about such things they are of course, technically correct. It's only when one says it to avoid honest conversation that it becomes annoying. I could be wrong but the OP just seems to be bothered that a less educated person can to some extent correctly diminish something that a more educated person says. That shouldn't really bother him imo.

Those are all unanimously stupid examples that have nothing to do with your original point. Also, I said diminish, not completely remove.

The first one is fine. There are many things which are indeed just a theory. The usefulness of the statement is questionable unless it is elaborated on of course but nevertheless, it’s nothing to get too bothered by.

The second, third, sixth and seventh ones deal with too broad an object. I doubt anybody in your class is complaining that it's "just science" or that it’s "just reality” unless you’re in some sort of remedial class.

Your forth example is fine. It's a physically existing thing that has been given a name. We both know that that is NOT what you were talking about.
