what happened to my world ?? :(

omg, goth ? what happened ? when I lived in chicago and hung out in the goth scene and such, "goths" were the coolest folks I'de ever met. Sure we all looked scary but we were damn good people, NICE people. I felt like I belonged somewhere when I hung out at club neo or the exit. I'll admit I never really labeled myself goth , but it was and still is stuck to me often enough. what the hell people, could we all try and except each other and help each other. what, you want to start acting like THEM ?

perhaps my reaction to the abuse heaped upon the silly and ignorant here is excesive, but there it is. Perhaps I just shouldn't try to communicate with other humans whilst doing ugly math.

This place was once a place at least somewhat similar to what you describe. Then it became a haven for an endless stream of morons, assholes, trolls, and losers. All the while the senior membership, many of whom have been here, tried to stem tide. Now patience is gone, and if you can't earn their respect...good luck. You don't have to agree with them, but you better be able to hold your own.

Lurk moar, it's usually sound advice, from anyone, to anyone.

Oh, another thing, I wouldn't reccomend using the ignore function too much. You'll miss out on valuable posts as well as bad ones. 'Tis the interwebs, and it's not worth getting worked up over, and certainly isn't worth censoring.

Just going to throw this out there. Why would you post that here? I mean, it just sounds like you're trying to instigate something, however indirectly. Am I reading too much into this?

i dont know , dont think so. truth is I'm stuck in this little town where i know nobody and I had this Idea to go meet people on the internet, not big into boardsor chat rooms in general, so I am kind of new at this. things started off well here and then took a steep dive tonight, again perhaps my own fault.

as far as this post, I was hopeing I would get a bunch of responses in the vein of what twitch had to say.

anyway I'm gonna just keep my mouth shut and be happy I found a place to post my poetry where maybe a few folks will actually read it.

I sincerly apologize to any board member that finds my rant insulting, if you are bothered by being considered mean I am not talking about you.

@ twitch, again I'll take your advice sir. again your correct in that it is not worth getting upset. I have no intention of ignoring anyone who dosnt choose to be needlessly antagonistic.

"Needlessly Antagonistic"

That describes about a quarter of what goes on here.

Magnus13, I feel you here...
I had no problems so far... (I didn't post much)... But strangely enough I'm not getting a great vibe on here...
I'm a bit like you, lost in on my own here and hoped I'd found a nice place to exhange thoughts and ideas I came with an open mind...
Time will tell though, let's not give up too easily ;o)

Magnus, make no mistake: gnet is full of incourageable bastards, plain and simple. There's some amazing talent, insight, and humour here, mind you (which keeps me coming back); but don't think for a moment that this is a civilised place. The level of angst and incivility is astounding.

I suppose that the biggest contributing factor is that most people here don't consider "internet communication" to be a real form of human intraction. It's just my guess, but I highly doubt that gnet's members behave like such brazen, contentious churls in person.

If you can get past all the bullshit, gnet can be a pretty interesting place though sometimes.

yeah and I'll admit I have a bit of a hair trigger temper, I work on it, I really do.
@ Isaloween , I'll hang for awhile, If you feel the need to chat with a kindred spirit feel free to P.M. me, I'm mostley harmless.
@ the feathered one , think I'm gonna confine my posts to the lit. section, at least there the vitriol seems to have some creative purpose.

Dude, it is begging to be mentioned that in the Literature thread you're one of the ones who encourage angsty shitty writing the most. Raise your standards a couple dozen notches if you're going to rightfully complain about angst.

Unfortunately, the PM feature is inaccessible until you reach a certain number of posts. As you can see, I have 170, and it's still unavailable to me. I have no idea when I'll finally be able to use the damn feature...

The literature section is definitely my favourite (along with the "Dark Arts" section); it's what attracted me to this site, in fact. Unfortunately, some people here as you'd expect take it way too serously and forget that we're all just amateurs seeking a creative outlet for our inspiration. I've received some excellent constructive criticism personally, but a lot of the comments I've read on here are unproductive, worthless rot. Constructive criticism is a valuable tool, but there's no sense in tearing someone down for work that's less-than-professional. Make no mistake; you're not doing someone any favours by saying "your poem sucks; give up", etc. Hell, I respect people who take the time to write poetry these days, whether it's technically good or not. Poetry in the traditional sense is basically dead after all.

By the way, a little advice to the both of you: the best thing you can do on gnet is to not give a fuck about the flaming that you guys WILL RECEIVE. If someone doesn't show you respect, ignore his ass. Some people here enjoy bickering and are ever on the prowl for others to disparrage in whatever way they can in order to feel intellectually superior. I haven't been a member for very long, but I can tell you for sure that it's been this way on gnet since I began. You'll find out within one damn week who these people are, and of course they just need to be ignored.

This gave me a chuckle. I understand why you do it, TheFeatheredÆtheling, but it's very true.

I laughed at this, as well. I'm going to keep thinking it's not directed at Isaloween or magnus13 for my own amusement. :x

Dude, this isn't the Samaritans. No one owes you a free ride because you're surrounded by assholes IRL. That's not to say we're all TOTAL dicks (well, not all the time), but people have gotten sick of the idea that everyone who joins should spend the sum of their time here hugging in the shower because they happen to listen to a few of the same bands. People are judged on the content of their posts, and kicking off by talking about "them" (foreigners? Clowns? - surely not non-goths, that's so arbitrary it'd make my grandma, who doesn't like the Irish because "they drive too fast", blink).

Also, listen to Twitch. That pretty much sums it up.

I usually have a three strikes and your out rule.

I wrote a post and deleted it. I was called a troll when I first arrived, even though I posted a picture of myself and was really nice, and honest in my initial posts.

They I made daft posts and blurred the lines.

Plus I have always liked to be the devil's advocate and make people think outside the square - I'm a lateral thinker from way back - which tends to piss off the logical thinkers on this forum for some reason.

to quote another fictional character (mostley because I think it's a clever line)

"life is like an onion, cut out the bad parts and the rest is still good" - Vlad Taltos, assassin for hire

but seriously I always try to give people a chance or two, usually dont get to three though, short attention span.

It is true. Basically, I serve as the literature section's counterballance.

It was indeed meant to be advice for Magnus and Isaloween, but then Alan appeared and I thought to myself, "Well, speak of the devil..."
