I've had real suede boots and they were a pet hair magnet, and I'm having the same problem with the new boots. I have stepped in puddles and there's nothing so far, except some mud I stepped in the other day. I don't remember how long it took but the old boots are stained from walking in water and snow (probably from the salt), no stains on the new boots but I haven't had them for very long. They're more comfortable but that could be because the old boots had a much larger heel.
That said I'd probably go with the pleather, just because the cats fricken love the new boots and won't stop rolling all over them, and pleather is more waterproof.
