Question Why Can't Goths do these things?..

I've heard that most of the time goths can't be funny. I've heard we can't laugh or be funny- but I'm new at this- what do I know? I used to LOVE making people laugh, it was one of my best things, I got hired to do it- without being paid crap. But now I'm losing that reputation because I've heard those things. Are they true? I'm young and stupid. *is ready for curse filled insults*

Really?

Have you ever thought that this question you just raised, was pathetic and stupid?

You're absolutely right. Goths can't be funny. If you are ever caught being funny, we will totally take back your pewter ankh and decoder ring.

That's called a 'quote'. The quote button is at the bottom of each person's post. If you feel like calling someone a meany-poopy-head, then you should call them by name and/or quote them, so they know who you are speaking to.

No one has been mean to you, even though you don't know how to follow the rules. And if you have been reading enough to know that a member of this forum that is your senior is a meany-poopy-head, perhaps you should have read enough to see that the Introduction thread in General says to use correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

I suggest you read it, Count person.

Have fun here on gnet.

She happens to be very nice indeed.

It's just that she, like many members here, do not like people breaking the rules and being dumb.

And she's a Flame Mistress Extraordinaire, so please enjoy your chosen path, Count Lyne...

Well, I'm caught in between a rock and a hard place (which isn't always necessarily bad). I am too new, in my opinion, to be roasting/toasting left and right and I didn't know all the rules when I first got here (well, I knew how to spell and tried to be polite) so I feel bad for them.

But honestly, it's not cool for anyone, especially new people, to start randomly insulting foks, so basicly I feel that he deserves flames but I'm trying -personally- to be generous.

Doesn't stop me from enjoying the heat!

Okay, you should really be yourself. No one can truly respect you if you don't Now about the goth thing: The gothic subculture emergeged from the 70's punk-era as a certain style of music. It started as purely music, so if you want to be truly goth, give a listen to gothic music. I would suggest Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, and Siouxsie and the Banshees for starters. I know that the subculture of today has evolved its own artstyle, fashion, and even state of mind, but the subculture is centered around the music. Oh, and for sanity's sake don't listen to those overhyped bands like Manson and Korn. Goth music has never been mainstream, and anything that is is totally not gothic. Manson is more alternative metal/hard rock. Don't get me wrong, though. I love metal. It's just that deathrock/darkwave/etc. are what define the gothic subculture.

Cool The only Goth........

So you at your last year in college. There use to be three goths in your school, now there is just one, YOU. So you stand out everywhere. Sometimes it is only the women in your community that seem to understand your need to be yourself. The men are scared to death of what you might be. You could be gay, a Satanist, a Witch, or just some drug-crazed wiedo. Either way you end up in the grocery store, or the dreaded Wall-Mart, and you see them looking. You know that they dont understand, some dont want to understand, especially the elderly. Then it occurs to you. What would it be like to be like Them. It is at this moment that you are glad to be goth, and that to be anything else would be a shallow existence, if you could even call it an existence. Some people who dare not confront the idea of Goth, just state that they think I am an original, and here in Montana, I proberly am, but we are many, and soon they will realize that it is they who have been blind for such a long, long time.

No, they won't. They will continue to be blind and completely unaware of it.

The masses will always be unoriginal. And the few who are different will always be regarded with trepidation.

Even in America, the supposed bastion of individuality, conformity is expected. If you don't conform, you will receive stares.

Those of us who are different, who are not burdened with the need to conform, should rejoice in that freedom despite the stares of the unoriginal.

I have found that the pressure of conformity is a lot like carrying someone elses' load around.

Screw it! Just let it go. You don't have to carry around their issues. You'll feel a lot lighter when you do.

After a while you will find freedom in being yourself.

"Is this too last season?"
"Is this too goth?"
"Is this not goth enough?"

Who cares. Be yourself and screw everyone else. I don't remember being given a Life Rulebook that says you have to worry about everyone elses' sensibilities...

Sorry for not responding right away.. Yea it's good, but I suppose it all depends on your love of odd old school horror flicks.

I think that it's really ironic that there are trends in the goth subculture. Look at the whole dread falls trend. Once that started everybody had to wear them. The same can be said for corsets.Anybody who says that the goth subculture has no trends is blind. The subculture can be very judgemental, especially the segment whose only care is how one looks. To them you can't be goth unless you are dressed 'elegantly'. Screw 'em.

I'm hating the goth-cowboy-hat look, right now. Can't say I've ever wanted a head full of snarled hair (ICK), but I do adore corsets and loose and braided falls.

It's more about having your own look amongst a bunch of subculture clones. I don't have to own a bunch of corsets(though I's loooooove too!) or poofy skirts to feel like me. No one ever looks like me when I go out and that pleases me no end! I couldn't give a shit less what the poseurs in the corner think.
