Well, at the very least, perhaps you could go yourself. Ironically enough I've been reading up about monasteries lately, the Trappists in particular. From what I've read they're quite happy to allow people of all faiths, to go and visit them, and in some cases even help out. I say that after a brief bit of reading however, so don't take my word as canon law. I also after I read about your situation took the liberty to look up the nearest Trappist monasteries to you. They are located in New Brunswick they have one for monks, and another for nuns.

I'm not sure if you're aware but the Trappists tend to produce a lot of high quality products. For example the Trappists in Iowa produce apparently very delicious and highly praised(the Washington post for example) candies such as carmel and mints. Over in Belgium the Trappists there produce what is considered by many beer aficionado to be the finest beers in the world(and like wine tastes better with age). Though I will confess, the Trappists of New Brunswick don't produce quite so interesting products, they make communal wafers.

I'll probably have to spend some time in a convent later down the road, but I don't really want to waltz in unprepared with no tools to understand what's going on. Its a Tibetan Buddhist abbey specifically, and Tibetan Buddhism has a lot of dogma that goes right over my head.

Things people missed on tinychat last night: My house got broken into by a drunk guy and my subsequent anxiety attack.

Consequently I couldn't sleep when I logged off and I'm VERY tired.

My sister works nights so she's sleeping in, my other roommate just says it feels really unreal and she wasn't sure if it really happened XD my blood pressure has been up since I got up though.

Can't nap, a close friend is in town for her birthday and we're going out to dinner, then bowling. Because we're secretly 80.
