I understand it like this. There are plenty of things that people in a position of privilege ignorantly make to or about people in a marginalized group. Ignoring the fact that some one in a marginalized group has experiences that are directly related to being a part of that group can lead to a person in a position of privilege to be insensitive to those differences or out right deny them to the marginalized person's face.

The person in the position of privilege doesn't mean to be an asshole, or to bowl any one over, but it happens. Things like "color-blindess" are one of the things that allow this sort of thing to happen, but instead of creating a more open and safe environment, it fosters an atmosphere of denial, and may even lead to more strained relations because the person in the marginalized position will be subject to the denial of many real problems they have to live with every day.

It pretty much just allows people in a position of privilege to pretend that marginalized people's problems don't exist.

As part of the dominant paradigm we *can't* understand the marginalisation that a group suffers.. we can see it, we can understand it on an intellectual level, but we don't know what it's like. I don't understand what it's like to be a WoC in the same way that someone else can't understand what it's like to be queer.

I know that it feels like you'll never understand it.. but it's something that is important to keep struggling with.

Yes, of course. *hugs* Understanding privilege can help you do that better than "colorblindness" ever could.

Nerdy thing made my day requires a little explaining. In the Dragon Age fandom there's a lot of Anora hate, and the fact that she and Cailan never had kids have led to a lot of weird headcanons like Cailan has like lethal sperm that only strong women can get pregnant from (Really, I can find that one again I'm sure) or that Anora is just too bitchy for Cailan to sleep with. Mind you Cailan is kind of a sleezeball himself, its basically part and parcel of misogyny in fandoms that the female characters get a lot more hate.

Anyway, someone posted a headcanon that Cailan is gay and pairs him with Duncan. Never considered it, perfectly explains why he's not really attracted to Anora, HEADCANON ABSORBED.

Well, it WOULD explain why Cailin held the Grey Wardens in such high regards. I just can't picture Duncan being attracted to an arrogant slob like Cailin.

It was more Cailan as gay that I was happy about rather than the pairing, I do kinda agree with you that I can't see Duncan falling for Cailan. But if Cailan were to come on to him, I wonder if Duncan would just go along with it to stay in his good graces.

Which makes me think that being a king means people might just sleep with you because they're afraid to say no and you'll never know if you really have enthusiastic consent.

I think with Alistair Duncan is a stand in father/parental unit.

Cailin DOES seem rather much like he could be gay - it is not an unreasonable assumption.

The "saying yes because it is the king" was kind of implied with Alistair's mother and King Maric, was it not? It must indeed be a dilemma...

Well, yes, the Alistair/Duncan thing is obvious enough as a father/son thing, but I believe that perhaps there could have been more - given time.

Awesome shirt Timeless, sometimes new clothes are what the doctor ordered

After nine weeks I've decided to get a little greedy with my fat loss.
As of this week I've lost 9"/22.9 cm from my belly, 5.5"/13.6 cm from my waist and a net weight loss of 10.2 lbs/4.63 kg. My new goal is belly to be 33"/83.82 cm, waist 30"/76.2 cm and weight within the 165-170 lb/74.84-77.1 kg area.

Already I can fit into some old clothes, but I want to be able to fit into some of my old outfits again.

Also got a job interview coming up for full time paid employment. I like to make that definition, because currently I have 2 full-time unpaid jobs - I know right? Crazy hey? But if you work on that a full time job is 30hrs a week, then I do a few, but none of them are really recognised by society. I'm a mother, carer, housekeeper (inc gardening and scullery maid) and writer.
