Nearly finished The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons. It was okay, but near the end it has gotten preachy, stating that Love is the uniting force of the universe...

I am now reading Endymion; same author, the next book in the series. I forgive Simmons for the end of the last book, as this one is not letting me down.

I'm reading Rise of Endymion; the fourth in the series. It's still good.

Just finished "The Undead", permuted press' zombie anthology. They juiced up the old shambling mess, stepping away from the stereotypes for some gory fun. Many of the stories are thought-provoking. My favorite has t.v. producers capture zombies, sticks them in an underground labyrinth, then send in humans to try to survive and turns it into reality t.v.
good social commentary on that one.

Recent reads…first off I’d like to make honorable mention to the short fiction recently published here.
Though they don't contend with the Harry Shannon, DGK Goldberg, Wrath’s, Lindberg’s, or Flem’s or yore…still, reasonable worthy reads.
As for novels, I just finished E.E. Knights recent work in his apocalyptic vampire saga and wasn’t disappointed, much. I’ve emailed him a few times and made mention that he would do well with a decent editor, and this latest endeavor (even published by ROC) signifies he hasn’t fucking listened on iota. Aside from the minor grammar fuckups (and to be fair King’s Buick Eight had more than it’s fair share) I really enjoyed the book. It’s a Pringles book. Where, after eating one, you have to devour the others, and they continue to combine the best offering of apocalyptic fiction to be had today.
Buy it, as well as the others.
Next up is Eragon and Eldest, by Christopher Paolini.
OK. The first book is rather pedestrian, with dire need of cliché rebukes, a really good plagiarism lawyer, and how 'bout a little fucking consistency? He leaves little doubt the book was written by a teenager, edited by his parents, and published with little regard to his audience…it was like reading a really good second draft, case closed.
Eldest is a more refined, more highly polished version of the former, with more fantasy, more high adventure, and less…what’chou talking ‘bout shite.
It’s Tolkien meets Alexander, meets Lewis, meets McCaffery, meets White, meets Jordon in the far future, and in that context…it’s not so bad.
Laurell K. Hamilton’s Cerulean Sin’s.
…
I wish Anita would just…fucking die.
The bitch is costing me money, and does the same thing over and over and over again.
Stephen King’s Colorado Kid.
Buy it.
Just. Fucking. Buy. It.
That is all

My pure black cat just had a pure gray kitten (among others). I just started calling her Dorian Grey. Maybe I should give that another read soon.

I just started reading a bunch of old books that I own including: Poe, Dahl, Tolken, Coleridge, Lao Tzu, Sun Tzu, Kyoka Izumi, and a few others that I can't remember right off the top of my head.

Finally it has arrived! I'm well into reading the newest book in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Feast for Crows. Surely one of the best fantasy series ever. I love the cruel unpredictability of it, where bad things happen to good people, and the fact that the characters are not either clear-cut heroes or villains.
