Everything there is extremely expensive but the people are really nice and generous, at least they are in Haight-Ashburry, which is my favorite part of the city (and the part I think your dirty hippy self would like the best). I wouldn't ever want to live there, partially because of the cost of living, partially because I know I would end up snapping and stabbing a bunch of tourists, but it is a fantastic place that you really, really, really should visit if you get the chance (and if you do I would be more than happy to give you some tips from a semi-local/frequent visitor).
Seriously it is one of the most spectacular places I've ever been. The architecture ranges from ultra modern to perfectly maintained, stately Victorians in the same row of townhouses while somehow still feeling cohesive. The parks are stunning and if you're in one when the fog rolls in it has the most amazing otherworldly quality. Gah I could go on forever. I've been fortunate enough to do a fair bit of traveling in my life and, while every place I've been is special to me, San Fran really took hold of my heart.

The skin is an organ...
And the liver is an organ...
You can have excess skin so they have to remove some by surgery...
So why can't you have excess liver?
(Not an actual question - just late-night pholosophy at its worst)

Something that annoys me...
A lot of people can't seem to grasp that food addiction is a real thing.
I have spent most of my life being heavily obese with society telling me it's my own fault because I can "just stop eating burgers and eat a fucking apple."
This annoys me to no end. My food problem wasn't always unhealthy junkfood - it could be regular, good-for-your-health food in extreme amounts.
If drug addiction, alcohol addiction, cigarette addiction and other such addictions are accepted to be real, why can't people understand that food addiction is just as real? The same centers in the brain are stimulated when a food addict eats as when a drug addict takes drugs. Obviously, drug addictions are harder to shake, but it is the same idea.
In the end, I beat my food addiction. But I still feel it lurking, and if I don't watch out, I'll get fat again.
But having society tell you that it's your own fault and making a joke out of a real problem doesn't exactly help morale or willpower.

I finally took a look at the produce in the grocery outlet here, I've been getting dry/canned goods there for a while but had assumed that their produce would be meh. I was so wrong. The produce is actually better than Safeway and so much cheaper, I mean nectarines were 5 for $1, so of course I got 10. You just can't beat that and a lot of their produce is locally sourced because the farmers sell them what they have left over after the farmers market.
Shopping there is actually cheaper than the commissary and a good bit closer so yay!

I just got home, holy fuck was that place a prime example of government inefficiency but at least my friend bought me lunch (plus half a tank of gas) and I got to see a part of San Fran that I had not been to before because it made sense to someone to put the passport office in the part of the city filled almost exclusively with high end hotels and designer shops, which I probably couldn't even afford to enter but there was some stunning turn of the century architecture.

We need to have some dinner (as soon as Jake gets around to showering because he is all stinky from the gym), so maybe chat in like an hour and a half? I think I'm the farthest behind as far as time zones and I'm a night owl so later isn't a problem for me but I know it could be for others.

You know between this Texas filibuster thing, the VRA being stamped on, and apparently how its customary in America to microwave water, when Versus gets back from training I'll offer moving to BC instead of discussing moving to the states.

Yeah, we are like... 7 hours ahead of the US over here in the boring part of Europe. And it's the same minus 1 in England
