Hey jerk in my general vicinity, I should not have to explain why yelling "white power" isn't funny, isn't a joke and isn't even remotely acceptable behavior for decent human fucking beings. Realising that a lot of the feminist theory I've read tends to be 'radical' and in a lot of ways isn't ideal. Trying to get my head around cissexist language but have been told that terms I thought were ok ('female bodied' when referring to someone with a uterus or assigned female at birth) aren't. This matters to the people I talk with.

So it seems I have a lot of reading ahead of me, and also sifting which resources are ok and which will make me sound like a jerk. It's harder because I know that people affected aren't obliged to educate me and it can be poor form to ask.

Acharis - Plenty of different folks use different language to talk about their trans* status. I have a friend who uses the term "(insert gender) assigned at birth" (faab or maab) for short, she's kinda old-school though she came out while there was very little info available about gender identity stuff. I know some peeps who use m to f or f to m. When denoting one's trans status is necessary to the conversation I usually go for trans man or trans woman, as they focus on one's actual gender identity.

Terms like male-bodied or female-bodied are problematic, assumes that a whole body is either male or female, which IMO is a pretty ridiculous concept due to all the complex factors that go into "biological sex" anyway.

Reading radical theory by trans and non-binary folk is a great start, I can see if I can put a list together for you later if you want.

I've found that talking to my friends helps a *lot*.. and I think that they help me because I don't shit around when I'm called out on something that I do wrong, and they see me making constant efforts to educate myself.

When I'm on the other side of the coin, I know that I have a lot of patience in dealing with people who ask for help because they want to learn and not because they want to be taught.

I haven't bought into the TERF stuff so that's good. But I have made mistakes and while unintentional, I know they were rather shitty. (Accidental misgender, shared an article without remembering there was a transphobic bit.)
