It's more about having your own look amongst a bunch of subculture clones. I don't have to own a bunch of corsets(though I's loooooove too!) or poofy skirts to feel like me. You are totally correct. I wish more people would be themselves instead of trying to be something that they think will get them 'accepted'. When I used to go clubbing I would confuse the hell out of people because one week I would wear Victorian mourning type clothes and the next week I would wear a Pil shirt and a skirt. I would always dress depending on what mood I was in. One week people would kiss my ass and the next week they would ignore me. HA!!!!

Very cool!!! I get to get off my ass and do some sewing that I have been putting off for a while. I have never made my own clothes but I have bought a ton of thrift clothes and have altered them, etc.....like taking the top half off of a poufy 80's style prom dress and making the bottom half into a skirt.

I like looking "demon~esque" one time, industrial another, EGL the next. There's so much to have fun with!

I don't think so. I think people are often pretty open minded to how different Goths are from each other.

I find it ironic that chavas think Goths are maniacs because we apparently all "worship the devil and slit our wrists" even if we do is that anymore than they are doing by taking vast amounts of heroin and tac?

Trust me....there are probably just as many addicts in the goth subculture.I have known many people in the subculture through the years who have done drugs.In fact I have known a few who have overdosed and died.

Goths can be just as judgemental as anybody else. Just because a person calls themselves a 'goth' doesn't mean that the person is open minded. There are probably just as many close minded people as there are ones who have a more open mind. I have been around the subculture for almost 20 years and I have met people of all different sorts.

I was thinking about starting a little "Goth 101" thread to turn into a sticky for all noobs. In it, all of us would give our insights into what isn't goth. I think that would be a lot better than trying to define what it indeed is. Of course, I'd like to hear some suggestions before starting it, because I'm sure I would get plenty of flames if I didn't. Thank you.

I am Goth.

I dyed my hair yesterday.. black as night. It reflects the ever raging angst and hate in my soul. And last nyte I ran naked amongst the trees barren in cape alone. I danced beneath the beam of moon blessing the trees and the stars thus cursing the lies, the torment caused by those who would subdue me. At once I felt no pain but could witness the unset of sweet sweet death at the tips of my most sensitive of appendages. The nyte had spoken to me in a voice so sharp yet sweet I was compelled to oblige... she whispered, "Alright Cruella get your dark bare ass in this house this instant before I tell your father!!"

and so....thus facing the angel of death I have come to realize that; to clean ones room before venturing out in to the ever calling night has become a wise step to follow the avoid undue subduing of those who would subdue us.
