No... that is scary... that there are books like that, and that they are published... weird and freaky.

If you want to see something scary, just visit one of those "Christian parents" websites. I read one of their articles about Diablo II... it was disturbing, not just because it was mindlessly condemning a game I enjoy, but because so much of it was outright lies. The writer had obviously already judged the game before so much as playing it. I can only assume that the rest of these sites are the same way.

That's what I hate about a lot of strong religious believers. Their religion preaches peace, acceptance and, in a general summary of every religion (possibly with the exception of satanism), be nice to the dude next to you.

However, these same people are so quick to condemn anything their religion disagrees with. They don't seem to realise that not everyone agrees with their religion.

The same thing happened with the Muslim communities and those cartoons of Muhammed.

The Christians aren't exactly rioting in the streets, let alone blowing things up over a cartoon of Jesus are they? There's been plenty of them. The Christian Chruch originally told us the world was flat. That was a bit of a boob wasn't it? However, did they burn Columbus at stake for saying it wasn't? Of course not!

Maybe I should have posted this in Politics...

Other then this I completely agree with you, but this is a myth. It was first mentioned in a biology of C. Columbus written by the same guy who wrote Sleepy Hollow funnily enough. There lots of old paintings that show God holding the earth, it’s a ball. I think that the roman believed that that the world was flat?

One boob that i remember well was that the sun goes round the earth and not the other way round.

..
Regardless of whether anyone believes they are right or not, in the Eyes of Muslims around the World what happened was a Blasphemy against their Prophet.

They aren't rioting because they are only slightly irritated about it, They're foaming at the mouth ENRAGED about it.

They are rioting, because what happened was the Christian Equivalent to someone drawing a cartoon of Jesus taking it in the ass.

Why SHOULD it need to make sense to anyone else but them?

NOBODY gets that fucking mad over a cartoon, for no reason.

Muslims believe it is a HUGE "Sin" to attempt to depict the Image of the Prophet Mohammed in ANY way.

Religions throughout history, have started wars for MUCH LESS.

They do realize that everyone doesn't agree with their religious views, but why should that matter to them?

It shouldn't.

They are wholly entitled to feel passionately about their beliefs, as are all of the religious groups around the world.

Of course it's going to seem Extreme to Westerners like ourselves, but our own Nation's History is full of events akin to this one.

Religious Group A pissed off Religious Group B and the next things you know people are slaughtering Mormons.

It happened time and time again.

And it will continue to happen until the Earth stops turning..

It simply doesn't make good sense to persecute another Religious Group because their beliefs don't make sense to you.

They don't have to, they only have to make sense to them.

My 1.9 Cents on the Issue.

And these where exactly the people, who insult Islam by calling them selves Moslems, who were marching thought London a few weeks ago shouting ‘death to unbelievers’ so I think C L has a point.

Well that’s why I’m not in love with a lot of people with 'lot of strong religious believers.'

Muslims have a right to be offended, but they shouldn't have displayed their rage in the way they did. They had no right whatsoever to enter a church and start destroying it and to hit innocent Christians, especially the women, and to destroy the cars, houses, and shops of the innocent people who live in Ashrafieh!!
If they're pissed with the way the Denmarkan magazine displayed their prophet, they shouldn't let their steam out on the local Christians who have nothing to do with it!!

Agreed.

Expressing their outrage in that way, isn't okay at all.

I just want to be clear that I am not condoning the riots.

But I DO understand & accept their Anger, just not the way they are choosing to express it.

I’m not talking about regularly religious people I’m only referring to those who take it over the top and give regularly religious people a bad rap. People from England like to think that this country has a long history of tolerates but lately there’s a lot of anti Islam feelings and I don’t like that. If we all got a long then the world will be a better place.

Real Muslims don’t do that kind of thing. But your right about those people who do.

I think that you misunderstood me. I didn't mean to say that ALL Muslims do that.I mean the ones that live in England, Europe, America... and some of the ones here, are really open-minded and never behave like that. But when you're living in the Middle East and specifically in Lebanon, which is considered as a region of religious turmoil, most members of any religion have to be extremists. That way, they won't seem prejudiced.Especially in an area where there are 17 religions fighting over political issues and striving to lead the country and the others.

Sorry I didn’t mean to imply that I thought you were talking all Muslims. You make a good point about Lebanon.

Oh that's ok. I wanted to clarify something, though. Some might infer from m,y previous post that I was ok with the way some Muslims behave and how they don't tolerate people from other religions and want to impose their own religion on others. Sometimes, they get so out of line, and scare the hell out of me!

Yeah, not to offend anyone from such religions, but I believe the religion worse than Christianism is Islam. I don't mind Catholics, they're cool, very liberal, although not many accept gay rights, but the Christians such as Protestans and Puritans..... I don't know....

Catholics are generally the very least liberal of all Christian sects, and Protestants the most. Perhaps it's different where you are, likely because of the Mexican influence.

Anyone who will blindly follow ANY religion or philosophy is dangerous. Hell, even an extreme Unitarian Universalist could probably find some obscure teaching and warp it out of proportion. That's why I don't devote myself completely to any religion or philosophy-- they all can teach us lessons (sadly, most of them as examples of what *not* to do), but faith can be a terrible thing.

Now, since I'm out of ideas, I'll throw some other people's ideas at you and run away.

You don't become an "independent thinker" just because people don't like your ideas. Or you.
