I've forgotten more about Islam than you will ever know.
I know the bad and the good.
The latter can be very, very good indeed: Rumi, Attar, Hafiz, Iraqi, Suhrawardi, etc etc etc are all old and valued friends of mine.
But unfortunately, the good is outweighed by the bad, particularly over the past several hundred years. It has become a self-poisoned and increasingly narrow doctrine hostile to almost anything not itself. And dangerous as a result.
Not a good time for Islam. Can it change? Of course it can change, and whern it does, it can be welcomed with open arms again. But that is in their hands, the west can have very little positive influence on the direction their religion must take.
