Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Well, yesterday, I got "Last Exit" by Ausgang, "Close One Sad Eye" by Kommunity FK, "1983-1987" by Burning Image, "For Madmen Only" by UK Decay, and "Autopsy" by 45 Grave. I'm probably going to buy them when I get the money, seeing as how I can't stop listening to them!

Ramones - S/T
It's old as hell and a bit cheezy, but so damn catchy, influential, and awesome! I know both the Pistols and Ramones are practically in the "list of punk bands you have to know in order to be punk", but damn it, they're both so freakin' sweet.

I actually found some good stuff in Hot Topic today. It took me by complete surprise.
I found an album called Gothik with two CDs and a DVD. Some bands featured on these albums are: Rosetta Stone, Alien Sex Fiend, Christian Death, 45 Grave, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, and many more.
Another album was Goth Industrial Club Anthems, with featured bands such as: Bauhaus, Fields of the Nephilim, Specimen, Skinny Puppy, Zeromancer, Apoptygma Berzerk, and many more.
It was like hitting the jackpot there. Another good compilation they have is the Asleep By Dawn comp.

For Christmas, mostly:
16 Horsepower and Secret South : 16 Horsepower
Both are no longer in print (so to speak). 16 Horsepower is one of the best bands I have heard in my life. They are often classified as alternative country, though that is true only very broadly. Powerful, frightening-- an excellent, deeply religious and rather scary singer backed up by strong and surprisingly heavy bandoneon, guitar, banjo, bass, and martial drums. Only four people in the band (three in their debut CD), but you'd never guess it.
Mosaic : Wovenhand
Wovenhand is the band that 16 Horsepower's singer created after his original band dissolved. It's more subtle and atmospheric, but no less creative. They seem to have an industrial/electronic influence.
Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers, and Bastards : Tom Waits
Yes, I have it. Yes, it is excellent.
Franks Wild Years : Tom Waits
One step closer to completing my collection. One of his better albums.
Our Lady of the Broken Spine : Reverend Glasseye and His Wooden Legs
Southern revivalist cabaret, twirly mustaches and all.
Who Will Survive, and What Will Be Left of Them? : Murder by Death
One of the best band names ever, plus they have a full-time cellist. The album details the end of the world in a most excellent fashion.
Tender Prey : Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
One of their earlier albums. Decidedly different from their newer work, and darker.
Meds : Placebo
I love their sound, though their lyrics leave something to be desired.
Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) : David Bowie
I decided that I ought to get to know Bowie, so I chose this almost at random.
Also, my father received Songs from the Labyrinth, a collection of songs by Elizabethan composer John Dowland performed by Sting and Edin Karamazov. Very different and beautiful.
