Because Bob's voice is totally the epitome of perfection.
PS I liked that when Dr. Manhattan walked his penis jiggled. It made me laugh a lot.

I just saw his stupid bitch critic on TV. She was talking about how only fans will appericiate Watchmen and no one else will get it.
She talked very derisively about graphic novels, and basically implied that the book was bad, and the characters were weak.
To back up her point she cited stuff that they added in the movie (like the ridiculously graphic fight scenes). and compared Dr. Manhattan to the Jolly green giant.
I wanted to leap into the TV and beat the stupid out of her.

I haven't read the graphic novel yet, but I enjoyed the hell out of the movie.

You make me so angry. I know I shouldn't have read your reply to the thread about the Watchmen movie, but I did anyway, because it seems on some unconscious level I want to experience pain. I knew exactly what to expect, too, but even still I couldn't prepare myself for the inexpressible rage that grips me as I write this.

Tam, he's Jewish not Hindu. He can have all the cows he wants. Pigs, however, are out of the question.

Man 5: True, but if he starts giving birth to cows because of his outrage, we may all be in trouble. O_o

Well, that might be a little too exaggerated, but there's really a point in that.
I mean, just look at this page. Tam has now changed her avatar to a Watchmen smile with the blood pointing right vertically!
Guess who will say 'it's not a big deal' and guess who'll understand what my point is.
I just realized you and I and many others will inevitably develop a new pet peeve. Just wait a week; there will be scores of people obsessed with Watchmen without ever having read the comic book and failing to hide their obvious disease of missing-the-point.

I promised my brother I wouldn't go see the movie until he comes out this weekend, its hard not to give into temptation, since I'm getting off of work at a reasonable hour now and my workplace is right next to a theatre with cheap prices and I have a gift certificate. Also he's my baby brother, don't know how awkward it will be to watch Nite Owl sex and jiggling blue penis with him.

Jilly: I would never have pegged you for a comic book elitist. lol
Amazon is sending a copy of the graphic novel to my house as we speak. The hubby ordered it right after we saw the movie.
Before watching the movie, I tried reading the graphic novel. I found it too dry at the time, but I'm far more interested now after seeing the movie.

I predict she'll be complaining later how she didn't get it and the alien thing was stupid and how much more awesome the movie is.

At which point I will track her down and kill her with a rusty shovel, because clearly her brain has been eaten, and she is in fact, some sort of zombie. <--This is a joke.

Did anyone else notice that in the movie they changed how Rorschach kills the child molester? In the movie he handcuffs him to the wood burning stove and chops him repeatedly with a meat cleaver but in the book he handcuffs him, gives him a hacksaw and starts the building on fire--the implication being that the guy must cut off his own hand if he wants to escape the flames.
When I 1st read Watchmen I thought that scene was a rip off of the end scene in Mad Max. I assume they changed it for the movie for exactly that reason. Seeing it on the screen would have made it look even more derivative.

No one in Hollywood remembers mad max. They probably thought it looked like Saw.

What I read of Watchmen I understood, but it was rather dry for my tastes. I'll make a second attempt when the hubby is done with it.
Movies rarely, if ever, live up to their literary counterparts.

How was the book dry? What does dry denote to you? Most people use it to imply a lack of drama or emotional content or something overly intellectual. Huysmans' A Rebours is an intentionally dry and sterile novel. Garrison Keillor's Lake Wobegon Days is dry intellectural humor.
I can hardly see where Watchmen is dry in either of these respects. In order for you to find Watchmen dry you would have to be a fan of the most decadent, maudlin, overdone violence and drama ever written and, since we know that isn't your case, I suspect you are misusing the word.

Man 5: The novel part of the graphic novel just didn't hold my attention, and just didn't seem that well written.
By comparison, I enjoy listening to Garrison Keiler, since I do enjoy dry humor. GK is dry in the sense that a martini is "dry" while the novel part of Watchmen seemed dry and uninteresting in the same sense that a desert is dry and uninteresting.
But, like I said, I'm willing to give it another shot after the hubby's done with it; It's possible I just wasn't in the mood for something like that at the time.

Simple-- it wasn't wet. The picture parts were fine, but the bits with words bored Tam. Now she knows to soak the pages in chocolate and lick them clean as she reads, in order to motivate herself to soldier on despite the tedium.

The Wizard of Oz, the Godfather, No Country for Old Men. The list goes on almost infinitely.
I officially believe Tam is some kind of android or marginally self-aware artificial intelligence confined to the net, programmed to form personality profiles of whoever it should encounter, and proceed to behave in whatever fashion it calculates to most effectively irritate those people.
I find I can predict the content of her posts simply by imagining the most annoying thing someone could say in whatever context exists.

The Wizard of Oz was a -very- different movie from the book. I haven't read the other two, though I've seen the Godfather and heard that the book was, indeed, better than the movie.
Other books that were better than the movies: Interview With A Vampire, Stardust, The Neverending Story, Queen of the Damned, The Stand, and so on and so forth.
With the exception of QotD, the movies that the books inspired weren't bad, it's just that the books were better.
Edit: *Removed smileys so as to not offend GM's delicate sensibilities.*

Oh! One more I have to mention! The Chronicles of Narnia! Good grief, the movies are so annoying, and do a very poor job of reflecting the books properly!

Well, since difference from the book detracts from quality, and everything any random individual tells you is true, I guess my argument has been summarily defeated.
I'm not saying that movies aren't generally worse than the books on which they're based, just that there are many great movies adapted from shitty books.
