Wow. I've never really been to a thrift store before. It seems like I'll definitely have to check them out next time I get the chance. Anything I should keep my eye out for? Anything I shouldn't buy?

Alright, first thing is, you'll need time. I usually spend more than an hour going through the entire contents of the store (you'll need patience, too, to get to the gems). Clothing are an obvious "must see" in a store like this. Remember, DIY's the word. Apart from that, curtains in thrift stores have proved to provide fabric for interesting clothing (this goes for any kind of textiles. Think outside of the box). Books, furniture, that sort of things are also great things to look for if you like old stuff. You will probably have to modify and/ or mend most objects bought in a store like this, but it is worth the extra work. I can't really think of anything I'd not buy in a thrift store... uh, well, except for socks and underwear and that kind of thing...

I actually don't have good luck at thrift stores at all.. which is weird. Most people I know find the COOLEST stuff at the same stores I've gone to.
All I ever see are the same plain ugly sweatshirts and bad 80's/90's patterns.
Maybe I just don't know how to thriftshop?

I get almost everything I need from Thrift stores (Well... Almost...) I love to get dresses and shoes from there, and the ones around where I live have a wide selection of cheep sewing stuff. I bought my sowing machine there for cheep too, I was happy about that.

There's a chain of thrift stores around here called Out of the Closet. A percentage of the profits go to AIDS charities. I try to go to them whenever I am in the mood for thrift stores.

It's been announced that all of the "Interfaith Thrift Stores" are closing for good. They have about 12 locations across the city here, bummer.
Sales dropped drastically due to shoppers buying brand new designer name clothing rather than looking into affordable clothing.
Second, because the landlords of the properties jacked up the rents beyond the store's affordability. That sucks big time. I hate it when people make money off of real estate. Just sounds so greedy and incompassionate.

I buy a lot of nice shirts at thrift stores though I don't usually find shoes because I have big feet but recently I found a pair of nice Mudd boots for $3.

I used to live in England were there were some amazing thrift stores everywhere, but now I live in a small place in the US where the only thrift store is salvation army. They have crap at the local one and I get bombarded by fleas whenever I go there. ugh. England really does have nice ones though. Oxfam. Hehe.

Thrifting rocks in Caloundra theres this huge thrift shop that has fill a bag for $5.00. And my sister found a really nice black trench coat in a small life line store in Beerwah near the train station.

The Thrift Store and I are good friends, without a doubt. I've come across some nifty items to decorate house with, and came across a smashing leather jacket there, along with a pair of exquisitely cheap Demonia shoes! I'm headed there later today, actually, to see if I can't find some black T-shirts to test my D.I.Y. originality (ha!) on..

I've had some nice stuff out of charity shops now I come to think of it. I got a really nice black lace shirt that I usually wear in summer, and a dark green paisley velvet top. I mostly buy books from charity shops though.

I love thrift shopping, but some of these places are infested with bugs. I used to try on clothes at a local Salvation Army all the time, then one day I found a GIANT tick on a dress I was just about to put on. After that day I started inspecting things carefully and I find them all the time. Also tiny little spiders. Many thrift stores are perfectly clean, though, especially the ones in nicer neighborhoods.

I've gotten a few nice things but as I have a bit of an issue getting things to fit I just go through the shirts/dresses that are larges looking for nice fabrics and tinker with them until I get something that I like (who cares if I ruin it if I only paid $6). I have also found that thrift stores in really wealthy places have fantastic accessories (sometimes only a few months old) but they tend to have little furniture or clothing worth looking at
