Well, actually true-satanists don't believe in a heaven or hell, nor a God or Satan for that matter, they believe that man has the potential to be God and that each person is a self-owned self-contained kingdom, unlike an Atheist that believes in absolutely nothing, we are living matter, a fluke of nature, with no creator or purpose, furniture with no soul. And most punks (since their core is anarchy) are one or the other, according to the stereotype, I personally know political-punks, catholic-punks and christian-punks.

Actually, atheism is the lack of belief in a God/mutliple gods. Not a belief in nothing; that leans further towards hardcore scepticism/nihilism.

I was force fed Catholicism growing up. Now I'm just nothing. Don't go to church, don't really believe or not believe in anything. Just neutral I guess.

I was baptized Russian Orthodox, raised Lutheran and went back to Orthodoxy a few years ago. Then I sort of fell out of the habit of going to church every week, so now I'm not actively attending. Recently I got introduced to my friend's Unitarian Universalist beliefs, and this past weekend we went to a Young Adult conference in Kent. It was pretty cool. I guess it can be said that my religion is whatever it happens to be at the time, lol.

When speaking of "satanism", remember that there are at least 2 exceptionally diverse kinds of "satanism".
Satanism as an a means for the individual to let go of the bonds he was brought up to believe in, or the angry people who confuse christ with the idea of church and consider themselves to be evil and an adversary (arabian meaning for Sheitan[satan]) to goodness and the very idea of love one another regardless of everything.
Just a thought, before people start talking about things they know nothing about excepting maybe a couple of bad films and looking up M.Manson on the net.

Well, I'm Catholic, and apparently I'm a goth.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Just because I'm a goth does not mean that I have a required religion. That's not what being a goth is about. A goth is as mentioned in the Goth with a Sledgehammer post:
"The culture was comprised of INDIVIDUALS with very little in common but their artistic drive, insatiable curiosity, extreme intellectualism, and the socially unacceptable need to be and express themselves."
I didn't remember reading that it had anything to do with religion. Now the philosophically curious nature of a goth might bring religion into question, but it would not specify being cemented to a certain religion.
(Oh, and thank you for the "Goth with a Sledgehammer post Purple_Stars)

Interesting, a thought provoking and diversely answered yet sadly overworked question.
Its one of those questions that can't have a definite answer because niether of the terms have an exact, clear cut definition for all people. If your version of Christianity is the modern day, feel-good, psuedo-self-esteem building, corporate culture, TBN crap, (i.e. what is spoon fed to a great many sunday morning congregations) then yes, you've probably been taught to shun and hate anything resembling mainstream societys' version of goth. If you're goth, and come into contact with this watered down pat-on-the-back slop, you would understandably have naught but distain for a group seemingly so unconnected with our reality.
However, if you look at Christianity in its' true form, its' original, timeless, ancient form, there is nothing more real and definitively connected to an understanding of darkness. It is about dealing with evil on its' most fundemental level, direct warfare if you will. a single point of light shines brightest in total darkness. It is recognizing a spiritual, supernatural world in all its' awesome existence, in its' reality. On a slightly more human level, it is about sacrifice, ostracism and lack of faith from those closest to you, a tortured tormented soul, and dealing with the decadent, degenerate temptation that affects all mankind. It deals with a very persoanl pain, death and destruction. It deals with the ultimate forms of love, bittersweet, and pure. It deals with ultimate hate. It deals with pride, humility, who we are and how we present ourselves to the world. It deals with every facet of inspiration within our culture. I ask you, how can genuine Christianity not be "goth", as a cultural interpretation?

To Sabine Blodwin, I think the word you are looking for is "atheist", meaning "anti- religion" or "no-faith". Most people think of atheism as no belief in any higher power. What exactly is your version of pagan? There are several varieties, I would be interested to find out what others truly believe.

I find christianity and many relgions to be nothing more than a crutch for people to feel better about life, knowing when it ends there is something beyond, other than laying in a pit of decay festering with maggots.
Although religions also teach people in some cases, positive values to uphold and basic human kindness, so I respect that aspect.

What the hell does the taste of babies, chickens or cats have to do with the current subject? Just curious, because that is a big jump.
