Sometimes parents refuse to believe we are adults and can make decisions for ourselves. The only way to handle denial is by firmly and politely challenging it. Sometimes it takes a bit more *ahem* "firmness."

My mom used to not let me wear pants when she went through her "good Christian girls have to wear skirts and dresses all the time" phase, she, later, tried to justify it by saying that she just didn't want me to run around looking like a guy
That annoyed me beyond belief, and I rebelled, of course. She drove me to go through a tom-boy phase, that never would have happened had she bought me those nice, feminine, pinstriped pants. I still have a few pairs of cut-off jeans from back then. (sixth grade)

I guess that moms will be moms.

Sounds like something my mother would say if I tried to call her up and say 'hi' after 3 years. That's why I'm never talking to her after I move out. Ever.

I think the funniest things she's ever said were
"Goth is a religion and its like Wicca and I don't want you being a part of it"
"Oh...you mean the CULT" (When I was talking about the Cure)
and
"I don't want anymore crosses or ankses (ankhs) in my house."

But yeah my mother is a Jehovah's Witness (oh dear god, I know) she's always talking about how I've betrayed her and I don't love her and I'm doing this just to embarass her and she can't wait for me to "grow out of it" and come back to "the truth" (being a good little JW) And since she pays for all my clothes (I can't wait to get a job) I don't really have a lot of, well goth, things.

Poor kid, it must be awful.
I feel for you, and I'd save you if I could. But, alas, I am but a fifteen year old girl who can barely keep herself from failing Algebra, let alone save another soul from the clutches of their insane parental units.

Meh, just another couple of years and I won't have to deal with her.
I don't really care about the way she treats me that much really, but I just needed to rant a bit.

I could make a black top with lacy trim for about 5 bucks :[
I don't hate the fact that I'm not allowed to dress it because I can to an extent, but her attitude and misconceptions piss me off.

My mom is pretty chill now about my looks. She used to flip like no other, and tattle to my dad about how I look. When I first got into the more alternative and goth looks they both were dead against it, my mom for the whole thing, and my dad for the make up. But slowly my dad stopped caring while my mom still ranted. I went to some Christmas mass at my family's Catholic Church in my big boots, lime green tights, fishnets, black capris, white collar shit, black tie, and minimal make up, and my mother tweaked out. My dad told me I looked good. haha. Now my mom is normally ok with what I wear as long as it doesn't involve my boots, and my dad really couldn't care less. The other day I had some spiraled eye liner on, and she tells me I look weird. It's normally funny rather than annoying. She isn't too keen on most of my music choices and religious views, but as long as my Catholic school doesn't care, and the family parish finds it funny, she backs off. She just won't buy me a lot of the clothes I like, which I understand because they can be expensive. But what I hate is when we're shopping for clothes for me at the cheap department store, Kohl's for those who know it, and she limits that amount of black items I'm allowed to purchase. I buy cheap clothes in limited colors (half the time I try on two shirts, then buy as many as I can in different colors), and she freaks at me for my lack of color choices. But my sister can shop at American Eagle and spend boat loads of money on clothes with no problem. I'm not trying to act like a spoilled child here, but I can't stand that she gets the angel tratement.

Oh! Something I'd like to relate...
Okay so I'm a huge fan of the manga Hellsing (not much else, people I'm not a fangirl.... >_> ) and I had a pic of the main character (standing with a huge gun, coming out of a coffin, with bats flying out) laying on my bedside table and she freaked beyond belief. And then she went to my psychiatrist (at the time, he was just there to prescribe my ADHD meds) and told me "Oh she wears black all the time and she doesn't talk to me about anything so she must be depressed and then I found this pic and I'm so worried...." and then the stupid psychiatrist, without even talking to me or asking questions (I.e. have you had any thoughts of suicide? How happy would you consider yourself 1-10) he told me to come in the room, sat me down, and said "You're going to start taking depression meds." Just like that. It was a huge wtf for me so I refused to take them, so his response was, "Okay we're putting you in a mental hospital." Okay so that didn't happen, immediately at least. Then one day my mother tells me I'm going to have my blood drawn and instead has me admitted to the mental hospital where I was put in with people who had actually tried to kill themselves/runaways. When they admitted me they asked me if I had any scars/cuts I needed to show them to photograph and I said "no" and the lady admitting me looked around the corner at my mother and then whispered "Then why are you hear, dear?" The hospital kicked me out in half the time anyone is supposed to stay, because, after evaluating me, nothing was wrong. Duh. When I got home my mother had taken my cell phone and computer, disconnected the home phone, and to top it all off, burned all of my drawings. All of my drawings, that took me hours to do. All of this just because she thought I was depressed because I wear black.

If my mom burnt even one of my sketchbooks, I'd move out. I would be gone. Though my mom has threatened to send me to a psychiatrist, once because I'm "just not right", and once because I was annoyed that I got sunburnt and wanted my pale skin back. The main reason I complained was because my nose was getting all dry and peely, and she started going on about how my pale skin wasn't healthy and if I kept going on about it she was going to get me help.

If my mother ever dared do that to me, I would have inflicted some serious pain upon her person. You need a new therapist/psych. They aren't supposed to prescribe meds without talking to you about it, or throw you in psych wards on hear-say. Get a new one. I had a psych who was going to put me on anti-depressants to help me sleep and while I was alright with it, my mother was not, and after talking the whole thing over in an hour long session, the meds were ruled out. It isn't only about what your mom thinks. While yes, you may lie to your therapist, unless your mother has witnessed you causing yourself harm and has some sort of proof, they shouldn't do anything but talk to you. That's ridiculous. I would have killed my mother.

My mother's the shit. She introduced me to the concept of Syphallis & Ghonnorhea before explaining intercourse to me and various other medical subjects before I was 7. She bought me alcohol when I was under age and has tried to get me interested in virtually anything. When I was younger and I wanted to read a book and couldn't find it in the library, she found it.

My Father on the other hand thought I should be learning how to use shaped-charged explosives and how to make a ditch using anfo over learning anything medical. He also taught me that to survive in the wilderness alone has it's own merits so long as you have a pack of cards and good company from time to time.

My mother's partner is a punk to the heart, however. He thought the best thing that happened to him last christmas was when I gave him the best Sex Pistols collective album. He thinks the Sioux is a bit too soft but he can still enjoy it along with me.

They (my main psych and the lady that did my IQ test last year and diagnosed me with ADHD when I was, like, 8 and didn't actually talk to me otherwise) basically just did it because if I did do something to myself they might be held liable. Eventually (like 5 months later) even my mother decided that was what happened and I did get a new psych.

And to everyone who replied: There's nothing I could do about it, I have nowhere to go, and I need to finish high school, so I just got up, dusted myself off and went on with my life behind her back. I try not to worry about things and people I can't change, just a lot of undue worry for me.

It sounds like your mom is a real character. Maybe you should put out that book. Her quotes are kind of humorous.

My parents are pretty supportive. Sometimes they joke about the make-up but that'd be the height of it.
My mother asked me if people ever make fun of how I look, and told her they did. So she told me that it doesn't matter what people think, as long as you like it yourself.
Also, my mum bought me Kiss This (Sex Pistols) for Christmas.

My siblings and aunties aren't so supportive. Mainly teasing, dirty looks when I'm going out and the occasional 'Are you a...goth?!'
