Waitaminute, Panther, CaRaMeL... You're scared of 80's fashion making a comeback? I don't know how it is in the fashion-backwards U.S. or Bermuda (heheh), but over here it has ALREADY HAPPENED. Stonewashed jeans tucked into huge sneakers or weird hooker-boots, turquoise, pastel and broad belts over sweaters, faux-mullets with spikes on top, wraparound sunglasses, pleather, ironic mustaches... You go out to any club, it's like being warped back to a time when M. J. was a harmless eccentric pop deity, 64K of memory was plenty to game all day and skateboarding was a CRIME.

Personally, I think the 80's was a pretty cool decade, aesthetically. But then I'm thinking mostly of the consumer electronics and kitschy furniture, that kind of stuff, not so much the clothes. If people who were born closer to the 90's think it's cool and wanna wear that shit, that's fine with me, but it's a bit scary being in a club when everyone around you look like stereotypical jocks or clones from a not-so-distant future. And also, I suspect most of those 80's fetishists don't listen to New Order, Siouxsie, Fad Gadget or any of the hundreds of other good bands from the decade, but rather see the music of that time as a hot-pink synth embarrasment to dance ironically to at parties. That's sad...

But yeah, I'd like to see someone try to BAN any type of offensive fashion these days. Unless you are prepared to force everyone to wear a burka, just shut the fuck up. When my sister spent a year in Ohio going to high school, she got sent home one day for wearing a tank-top. Wasn't low-cut or anything, it just had no sleeves. Barring the schools that have uniform, which is kinda nice, that type of micro-managing the dress code is just NUTS. Thankfully, here, you can still wear what you want to school. Sorry you got stuck with the Taliban.

It is kinda fun to play with the public's perception of goths sometimes. I like making people uncomfortable when I sit next to them on the bus and stuff. I think the fact that I've become so "in your face" in the past few years is a partial reaction to the fact that when I was younger I was such a shy wallflower and was always picked on. On another tangent, I remember when my high school had a spirit week and there was a Decade Day where you could dress as your favorite decade. I did the 80's. I wore straight-leg jeans, a vintage Motley Crue t-shirt (actually from the 80's- more grey than black!) and I made myself "big hair" by tipping my head upside-down and spraying the underside heavily with hair spray.

my favorite for rage-filled lyrics and pure, hard-driven heavy metal. add to that sebastian bach's perfect voice and we've got a winner, folks. 'slave to the grind' is perhaps the greatest album generated from the late 80's, although i believe it was released in the early 90's.

Even Def Leppard did more than them just with the Hysteria album.

And Kickstart My Heart is one of the only 2 decent songs Motley have. I'll let you figure out the other. And remember one of the little fucktards is responsible for the death of a KISS drummer while driving drunk.

and the drummer vince killed was a guy named razzle from hanoi rocks, not kiss.

iron maiden kicked ass on vinyl (remember that, kiddies?) but they couldn't put on a live show if their life depended on it. van halen was a band exisiting above and beyond the talent curve, and in no way did they play on the same ball field.

def leppard were fun while they lasted - all mechanical and shit. i used to get drunk to their songs of woe in college and break things.

motley crue could put on a show, goddammit! they lived, breathed, walked, talked, fucked, shit, pissed, ate and absolutely DEFINED rock-n-roll. they were THE metal band of the 80's.

skid row were just an awesome bunch of angry jersey guys who made great music - and i fuckin' loved 'em. bach was the angriest, by far and slave to the grind was an INCREDIBLE album, not just - not bad. how dare you?

have you seen maiden live? never mind the props - they're boring on stage, no energy - except for the music. bruce dickinson does NOT know how to get the crowd going.

as for the monsters of rock tour - those 105,000 + people turned out for all the bands involved, not just maiden. don't get me wrong - i fuckin' love maiden, they just weren't any fun on stage. if they just shut the fuck up and played, they'd be fine.

as for skid row = skid marks, they'd probably like that too. in fact, i think they had a b-side album with that for a name somewhere in the past.

heh. 80's metal. gotta love it.

Dunno for sure (never listened to IM live) but, from videos, Maiden seem like a pretty good band on stage... and besides, how bad can they be? Every ounce of appreciation for their performance disepairs once the first riffs of The Trooper (or any other IM evergreen hit for that matter) start. The crowd just... loses control...

Simply said, I don't think IM could put a bad show, even if they specifically tried.

the problem most likely is they TRY to put on a good show and fail, mostly due to the fact they can't effectively work the crowd. at least that's the way it went when i saw them.

props = good. music = good. stage show = shit.

overall satisfaction rating - 6.5.
