Fanatics and Fundamentalist

I listened to a great jewish guy on npr ages ago.

I can't find the actual podcast, if you can great it's awesome.

He talked about how extreme people on both sides have lost it (the big picture of helping and doing better for the culture). He made a very interesting point about how on the whole most people believe that the Right are the fundamentalists and fanatics and have the monopoly on faith. But also the left has the same people. Although that idea is very taboo and often not even spoken of.

In many of my posts I've tried to explain how politics has driven science and the media as gas on the fire of topics that wouldn't have gotten much ground for their absurdity in the past. A friend at work gave me a movie to view about the global warming topic. Science aside, it makes my point to a "T" about how the media and politically driven people have twisted public opinion beyond fact and sensibility. Not just on the climate, but stem cells, abortion and even cloning.

Even if you are a lock step believer in global warming what would be the harm in viewing this?

Don't get me started or I'll go off on a rant about Scientologists! Leave it to rich celebrities to take a perfectly good name for a science based religion and put it on a wierd cult!!... Oh they have to have better things to do!!!

Faith doesn't belong in science, Science is meant to be through measurements and observations. And be non biast (Like thats the case most of the time)

And.... You're absolutely right! And that's my gripe with modern science. People are attaching faith in certain aspects of the capabilities of science. There used to be a saying "all that we know is probably wrong". Whens the last time you heard someone say that? Simply put, you should never stop questioning, especially if there's a shortage of data or correlation in long term data, you should never make a long term prediction.

And science does need some measure of faith, or leaps would never occur.

I romanticise about a science driven religion... But alas, reality probably wouldn't be as good...

Your right leaps of faith were made in science which turned out to be correct..its still bad science though.. it could easily have turned the other way.

But the difference is once the leaps were made to the next level, so to speak, they were checked using the correct methods and verified. Even now some of those leaps, such as einstiens, are being dissproven or questioned now with more technology.

Oh how I do love science... It's drama for nerds
