Oooh yeah. Very nice. I had for a moment, some kind of strange beta of FF3 and it was brilliant.

I'm currently running RC1. I was running the beta before that, since it's what ships with Ubuntu 8.04. The RC feels better than the beta did, but to be honest I haven't noticed that much that's different from FF2.

I'm still using the one that came with Ubuntu... but I sure as hell will get the new version as soon as it hits the web. Yay =)

I think you're better off waiting until it's in the Ubuntu repositories at which point you'll find it in the update manager. I'm sure it'll be there soon.

As of 8.04, it's in the repositories as "Firefox", with "Firefox-2" as an optional download.

I'm running 2.0.0.12 on my Windows boxen, and I'm hesitant to switch. RC1 and RC2 did not go over well, and I lost a bunch of add-ons.

As for Kubuntu, Firefox 3 is just fine.

I just checked Synaptic, the current version of "Firefox" is 3.0~rc1, which I'm using and I like. The final will probably hit the repos this week.

I was just mentioning this to Minyaliel because it's better to get it packaged from the Ubuntu repos instead of trying to compile it manually from Mozilla's website.

Yeah. I thought they already had the RC2 candidate out, so why not just download that. I can't see them making very many changes between RC2 and launch.

First Impressions:

Read the first bit of this Slashdot Article to get it.

First, what I don't like:

The Awesome Bar isn't my cup of tea. I don't know why, but I prefer the way the old bar worked.

Half of my extensions are gone. As of right now, I don't have support for CookieSafe, Fasterfox, Firebug, Tab Mix Plus, Verisign EV Green Bar, and my Opaque Firefox theme. (I don't need the Opaque theme though).

I wish the Bookmark interface went back to the way it was. I ended up deleting recent bookmarks and recent tabs because I don't need those. It seems really over-complicated, and it's not really helping me at all. (Considering I have over 100 some bookmarks, this is pretty important to me.)

What do I like?

Lighter then Firefox 2, definitely. It's using 111MB of memory right now, which is fairly decent considering I've got about half a dozen tabs open.

It's also snappier and more responsive. I think the new Gecko engine must being doing this, because everytime I open a new tab, I don't have to see a pale tan screen before I get my stuff.

The Plugin manager is really nice. I don't know why they included Get Addons in the release, and it's kind of annoying, but I can easily give them kudos for the plugin manager.

Overall, I like it. It's not crashing as much as RC2 and RC1 were, or any of the betas. I'll have to use it more to see if I really like it more then Firefox 2, but so far so decent.

Your first impressions were exactly mine as well. I have a bittersweet feeling towards how big the pages appear as well.

Has anyone noticed if their newer version of Firefox is much much slower and is timing out a lot?

Mines not. It kicks much arse. One issue - for some reason it moves gfx one pixel off, screwing up the outline of one page I frequent. Dunno why, but it does.

My firefox is snappier than ever, even after I turned on the extra- shiny show-off-y graphics settings on my box. So I guess it's your computer, sorry. :P
