New Goth Blog

Hello.

I have been writing Goth blogs for a website called Goth Head. It's still under heavy construction. Some of the links need some work, and the layout needs an overhaul. But, the writing and media are there. My blogger name is the same as my name on here (Dru LaCroix). There's supposed to be another writer, but she only wrote once piece entitled "Introduction".

So, if you are bored and want to read some stuff about Goth, you may find the blog at www.gothhead.com

Ah! I see a post about Abney Park. They're actually pretty neat.

As a blog this does have some minor issues, not all the links are linked, there are underlines that aren't links (a danger of the web colliding with print conventions for periodical titles) and it's a little bit difficult to navigate. Although, I enjoy the sidebar because it helps break things up a little.

The material seems strong, so I've been enjoying what bits I've flitted through. So it definitely has the content going for it.

Any plans to format it for easier consumption is all I wonder?

-LBD rant. Somebody has fumed or ranted about it at one point. Mainly because they took it so seriously, they didn't use their common sense to find something better on You Tube.
-The ankh piece was especially disappointing.

You told us to know its history but you didn't really elaborate much. You could have connected the ankh to usage in other countries, cultures, eras, and black expression. Even Death from Sandman herself would have helped a little but you instead gave more of the focus to its figure in vampire culture and making it a tat to correspond to it. Not to mention that you missed the Eye of Horus and cartouche symbols.
-Tucking in to keep corporate peace aside, what should stop people who actually weigh the pros and cons of magical/pagan religions from wearing the symbols?
-It seems to take itself way too seriously, even for a basic goth 101 blog that's just like the others.

But you still get props for the mention of Bohemien.

Yes, that's roughly what I thought when I realized the name of the site. I didn't choose it.

I had checked a while ago and there were no responses. Now I find several. I am glad there is feedback, even if some of it was sarcastic...

Recently I've been putting a lot of work into the site because the administrator gave me some creative control. He also moved the blog to Word Press, which means some were lost in transition. Fortunately, I saved most of them in Word or Google documents. I've been working on re posting them. For the ones that were up, I had to find all the pictures and videos. I also had to take care of some bad HTML coding.

The reviews of Abney Park and Bohemien will go up again this week. I plan on looking at some other bands. If any one has any suggestions on new Goth music, I will give it a look.

I am open to suggestions and critiques. I want the website to be really great. I will have to edit the post about the ankh. I am glad to learn new things. How could I forget Death? Oh, well probably because I didn't really read much of Sandman...

Anyway, the site can be accessed at http://gothhead.com ... if there are any problems with the layout, I apologize. I do not have control there. I will probably be the only writer for the website, and I hope to write more content on models and such. So... if anyone has any ideas, feel free to let me know. I will gladly look into them time providing.

[edit] There is now a place for user comments after each blog. Please comment if you feel inclined to do so.

Is it just a blog or are there other aspects of the site? it seems like you have a good start. I would suggest breaking it up into more pages though, and use columns in your text. if you're not too savvy with coding it wouldn't be too difficult to get hold of a program like dreamweaver or something similar, that writes the code for you. unless you're aiming for that bloggish look (not a blogger here, so i don't know the formalities of it. i can't stand endless scrolling). it looks like you're using a template from a web-based editor. might want to give it a more professional look.

anyway, good luck with it. web design is fun, and almost gets addictive.

Currently it is just a blog. I definitely agree with you on the endless scrolling being annoying, but I am not very coding savvy. I also don't have much time to dedicate towards tweaking the layout. I have to focus more on content. The layout is far better than it was. There didn't use to be any archives. One had to scroll through the entire thing.

I will definitely have to look into Dreamweaver time permitting. I would like it to be more viewer friendly as I think that is important. But as I said, I am quite busy. My primary income comes from another non-Goth site and I am also trying to get established as a published fiction author. I am using a web-based editor, the one that comes with Word Press. Thanks for your advice though I appreciate it.

Also Catch, I'm glad you liked it. And thanks for the comment on the Trench Coats article

Ooh, nice to see someone writing about the Chameleons! I really like them. One of my favorites is Swamp Thing though. Will definitely give the blog a more thorough look later.
