The grandpa paradox
It feels like my brain hurts every time I think of this:
Let's say you can travel back in time and shoot you grandpa in the head. What happens to you then?

I have to ask you, sir, to stop making too many threads.
And the topic of the thread is not important enough to make a thread about.
Do me a favor, please.

You fade into non-existence, and the entire universe collapses in on itself.
Either that, or the wound doesn't kill or seriously injure your grandpa, and it ends up being the wound he told you about when you were a little kid.
Dur. :P What else would it be?

Geo: Maybe it was an accident..? Like, he went back in time to protect his grandpa but dropped the gun and shot him in the head instead, without meaning to..?
I dunno; I tend to think that this is the reason that God/the Universe doesn't allow humans to time-travel..

well if you don't go far enough... then you still could have been born by then. But that is only if its possible for there to be two of you in the world at the same time.
..
whatever.

There's only one way to solve this, but it hasn't been invented yet.
My best bet is that you would just stop existing and possibly be replaced or not - as your grandmother would have married someone different and your mother wouldn't have been born as she was. Unless youre mother was already born at the time, in which case no difference...

If you go to the future and you steal a popular gadget, bring it back to the past, and sell it and make a fortune, in the future you'll come from the past and steal your own gadget which only exists because you stole it.

Similar to Jillian's
I am going to invent the time machine. In the future, everyone will have one, and I (in the future still), will go back in time to right about now and give my time machine to now me. Therefore, the time machine won't need invention, it will just happen.

That's a way to know the time machine won't be invented in our lifetimes: the same fact that it doesn't exist right now.
Then again, that also proves time machines can't exist: that they don't. That, and math.

You need a lot of energy for a time travel machine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X02WMNoHSm8
I've heard it's possible to the past , but not to the future .
About the grandpa , it's like LiquidEcstasy said : It's your mother/father who made "the difference" . His death would change quite a few things in the universe , but probably not a lot about your existence .
Anyways , now we have another question , much more interesting : How important are a single human being for this great all . Do you think It'll make a huge difference at the end , or it's more that there's some "important" humans who could make a true difference if dead?

MY THEORIES REGARDING TIME TRAVEL:
I believe that it is completely impossible to travel back in time from this point on. I say this because given the amount of time us humans have kept records, there has not been one recorded anomoly that would suggest time travel. Even if humanity exists for billions of years more (which is actually very unlikely), and a time machine was invented towards the end of humanity, it would be silly to assume that they would not travel into our past and present. Therefore, I believe that "fluid time travel" is, and will alway be and impossibility. However, I do not deny the possibility of having a time machine where one can go back as far as when the machine was first turned on. I remember watching a very convincing documentary once about that theory.
